Whittaker: The Agony and The Agony

Recommended Posts

Agreed. He looks a different player, leaner, sharper, and more agile. Still as slow as a day in Bar L mind you. Is done for pace by most.

I would agree with S_A, to an extent. I don't think he gets done for pace "by most" - McGeady has done him for pace a few times though - Broadfoot has held his own against that wee ugly bassa but in the CIS final McGeady did do him a few times.

What I would pick up on though is that I actually disagree that he looks leaner, sharper and more agile. Broadfoot has always seemed lean to me - I know for fact that he hired a personal trainer and paid for personally too in the off-season (last pre-season, not most recent seeing as he was injured) to continue working hard, keeping himself in shape and get himself in the best physical shape for playing top-level football.

I think that it is a case of "absence making the....." you know the rest - wrong cliche perhaps though ;) - because he has come back looking like the same player IMO - but because Whittaker has been off form Broadfoot has looked like a world beater by comparison

Don't agree with this at all. Complete nonsense. He may not be the fastest, but "done for pace by most"? Handles McGeady well whose biggest strength is explosive acceleration.

Is it really fair to call an opinion you disagree with 'complete nonsense'? I take exception to that.

As for the rest, McGeady has never done it against Rangers regardless of which right back we had playing. And for sheer pace, I recall Broadfoot being completely easily outpaced by either a UTD or Motherwell defender in a straight chase for the ball at the opposition half. He didn't get close. I don't ever recall him being fast.

Nah, have to disagree - Broadfoot looks slimmer, and stronger. This isn't the heart talking - I remember how bad he was before, and he doesn't resemble that player on any level to me. I think it's happened because all he's been able to focus on has been fitness - so he's lost some weight and is stronger.

But we can't really say one another is right or wrong - this is an issue of perception, as so much of football is, and it's just an opinion.

I wouldn't call yours or S_A's complete nonsense though ;)

Never said he was fast. Said it was nonsense to suggest he is "outpaced by most".

The fact you've struggled to give one example backs up my opinion of your opinion. ;)

I gave you one. I just can't remember the defender's name. And I will be watching him like a hawk - and I swear if John Hughes runs on the pitch and leaves him for dead, you'll have a lot to answer for!

When we did performance testing at Falkirk John Hughes was achieving the club standard required for first team players over the first 5 metres of the sprint test. His acceleration was still good, just couldn't develop and maintain top speed over the 20m test. ;)

Fair enough Danny, we will have to agree to disagree on how Broadfoot looks post-injury. I dont think there is much difference to his game as he has always assisted his midfielder in foraging forward. But you and I will just have to disagree there - no problem as it is the season of good will after all

Agreed though that it is definitely a perception thing - we are both right and both wrong, just in each other's opinion of course ;)

And you are right, what you said wasnt complete nonsense - but what S_A said was
