The 'dead rubber' of Sevilla

Recommended Posts

Are we even playing this final match for pride?

It's so bizarre to be going into match day 6 with nothing to play for. Well, I say nothing - if we were to achieve a pointless miracle and beat them, and Unirea beat VfB, then it's staggeringly the Romanians who win the group.

So we do have a say in the outcome. Not that it really matters. Because the way we've played in this tournament, we don't really deserve one.

Is this game really just about...pride?

There is cash to be made from winning this game

Yes, there is a little bit of pride at stake.

There should also be a desire to show that when we are a better side than we have showed so far in this group.

There is also a lot to be taken from putting in a good performance and trying to get a rare win on Spanish soil. It would be great for confidence going into a run of domestic games that could shape the destination of the title if we could get a positive result.

There is also £700K in prize money for the club for winning the match, small change perhaps but every little helps at the moment.

There is also ranking co-efficient points to be won, that will stay on our record for the next 5 seasons, so it would be great to add another 2 ranking points to our total. It may be important in future draws, the fine line between the seeding pots could be tilted in our favour with an extra couple of points from this game.

Is that enough reasons so far, and that is without the team trying to do anything for the supporters who are spending a lot of money to watch this "dead rubber".

There is no pride in anything we have done in the CL this year.

Id Play

McGregor

Whittaker Bougherra Wilson Smith

Davis McCullochThomson Beasley

Novo Fleck

In fact Id have that team with Boyd in for Novo for every game. Only reason I want Novo in is to let him try and equal the European scoring record.

Jings, is he close?

If he is that kind of sums up our European form. No offence Nacho :D

The game itself still matters too. Prize money at stake for any point(s) gained and we have yet to win a game this season. Not the easiest place to set the record straight on that one but lets show some fighting spirit and make a game of it. A good result in this game could set us up for the rest of the season

We have fuck all chance of winning this pointless match.

We can still win a league and therefore shouldn't be risking first team players.

I disagree with this.

While we don't have much chance of winning this game, we at least have to go and try and compete and hopefully get a result. Resting first team players and playing young players will not help us in any way,IMO, WS needs to play his best team to try and show a bit of pride,if any of our first team players were to get injured then I'd be quite confident that any young players coming into the team for an SPL game would stand a better chance than against experienced, quality European players

Playing for pride yes, playing to win hopefully, you never know we might have a strong defensive performance and sneak a goal, hopefully they won't be up for it and have one of those bad days at the office type games.

Neither Novo or Fleck are really out and out strikers. They both try and drop off a main player. Having two players working similar positions together doesn't work - just like Boyd and Lafferty. Partnerships need variety.

McCulloch in central midfield, or on the pitch at all for that matter?
