Novo faces police probe

Recommended Posts

You mean after our support have verbally abused the pair of them?

If they get called a wanker by one person? Yeah. after that.

How many people or how much abuse is a player allowed to get before he gets carte blanche to gesture to the support?

Every footballer gets verbally abused at some point during a game. Seems like it's just an excuse for carrying on how they like.

My biggest problem is them running to the police. Players should hold themselves to a higher standard as getting abuse is part of their job description and a lot of the fun of football. When they respond they should be disciplined by, like, the SFA or the club, depending on the relative severity of the offense. Involving the police in something like this is beyond ridiculous. The problem is precedent. If, say, playing an imaginary flute is inciting religous hatred then so is Boruc blessing himself etc.

I'm not easily offended, also I don't abuse players, but if I did and got a reaction from the player I was abusing then I would laugh, result,I certainly would never contemplate running to complain to the police

But there are players who get abused every single game.

I'm 100% sure Borat and Lemon got called a wanker by more than one person.

I'm sure they do, but how many people does it take for it to become acceptable for them to react?

Again it comes down to the split between those who follow the game and those who administer it. We've seen wishy-washy laws pertaining to singing and shouting and behaviour being brought in, but the SFA, the SFL, and especially the government and police haven't had the balls to come right out with it and ban what they consider anti-social behaviour across the board. No point in half measures, they might as well get it done, because all this tip toeing around what is acceptable and what isn't just leads to things like this incident.

Fans singing abuse directly contravenes the European Human Rights Act in terms of derogatory abuse; there's no good claiming there's too many fans at a ground to do anything about it. If that's the case, clubs could save a mint by doing without stewards or police altogether! Either go back to allowing pretty much everything and class it as a safety valve for society or get on with it and get people busted.

You can't have it both ways.
