How can they do that outwith the transfer window? Is it because he's under 18?

Been wondering that since the game at Dens Park tbh. Could well be a case of being put in the shop window. The fact that he made a Champions League appearance when Smith could easily have played Papac & Weir in the middle really had me wondering. Was brilliant for the lad to get a CL start at 17 years of age though. Absolutely fantastic in fact.
