Win or bust for Rangers - Miller

Recommended Posts

Striker Kenny Miller insists Rangers have to forget about their defeat to Unirea Urziceni and concentrate on beating the Romanians on Wednesday.

Miller also believes another loss would end Rangers' hopes of qualifying from Champions League Group G.

"It probably would be all over if we get beaten here," Miller said. "We know what's at stake.

"No matter what the form is going into this game, we've got to go and get the three points."

Unirea triumphed 4-1 at Ibrox last month, leaving Rangers bottom of the group with only one point from three games.

"We'll have to wipe it from the memory," added Miller.

"It's a new game. We've had a couple of games since then. We seem to have upped our performance.

"We know we can win but we need to remember what they did to us in the first game and hopefully turn it around."

"With the three goals we lost in the second half of that game (against Unirea) every cross and every shot went in so we've got to just hope that kind of thing doesn't happen again."

"If we can keep things tight at the back, we're always confident that we can nick a goal."

"It was a very disappointing result and we've got to try and use that hurt on Wednesday night to spur us on to hopefully get the right result this time."

Victory for Rangers could put them back into contention for qualification for the next round or a place in the Europa League with runaway group leaders Sevilla currently on nine points, Unirea on four and VfB Stuttgart a point ahead of the Ibrox club.

"It puts it right in our own hands again if we can win this game," said Miller.

"It obviously depends on the other score. We've got a home game against Stuttgart next and if we can win that as well then you never know."

"But this one's the first one, we need to get this one out of the way. If we can get the three points then I definitely think we'll be right back on track."

Danny Wilson has come into the Rangers defence in recent games with manager Walter Smith short of options at the back due to injuries to Madjid Bougherra and Lee McCulloch, though the latter has been declared fit for Wednesday's match.

And Miller believes the youngster is ready to make his Champions League bow.

"He's done fantastically well in the last couple of games," added the Scotland striker.

"He's been very commanding at the back, which is what he is and I think if he's given the nod then he'll not let anyone down."

Rangers' financial problems were given wide coverage following the first match with Unirea and Miller hopes a good result in Bucharest will give the club and its fans a boost.

"It's a money-spinner the Champions League and brings big financial gain for the club so the longer we stay in it, the better it is for the club," he said.

"We want to give ourselves a boost. We're the ones that are out there under-performing at the moment so we want to put that right for us first and foremost."

"Yes, we want to give the fans a boost and we want to progress but we're hurting just as much."

Actions speak louder than words Kenny!
