Bougherra Blow For Gers CL game in Romania

Recommended Posts

WALTER SMITH has today confirmed that Madjid Bougherra is almost certain to miss next week's vital Champions League clash against Unirea Urziceni.

The Rangers' gaffer had hoped the Algerian defender would be fit having recovered from an ankle injury in time to face the Romanian Champions.

But he is now facing up to the prospect of taking on Dan Petrescu's men without the influential centre-half who recently missed the 4-1 defeat at Ibrox on October 20.

Smith said: "Bougherra is out for our game with Dundee United at Tannadice on Sunday and in all likelihood will miss the game on Wednesday as well."

Elsewhere, Lee McCulloch did not train today but could feature against the Terrors on Sunday having shaken off a thigh strain.

Kirk Broadfoot, meanwhile, was put through his paces with the first-team squad this morning although he is still a couple of weeks away from being match fit.

Mo Edu was also be seen running around the Murray Park pitches and the American midfielder is expected to step up his training programme next week.

No surprise there, if it was Algeria he was to be playing for he would be fit

Algeria have a game in two weeks time & you can guarantee that Madjid will be playing in it.

Btw, anyone notice that it talks about his 'ankle' when we were told before that he had a knee injury??

Bad news.

With Madjid playing I'd fancy our chances of a result in Romania and suddenly we'd be back in it.

Without him though..... :(

It's not good news, but it could be worse. If Papac or Weir get a bad knock or an injury tomorrow Walter will probably play McCulloch at CB on Wednesday rather than play Danny Wilson. Fingers crossed that Papac & Weir get through tomorrow's game unscathed.
