Supporters Trusts in the UK: did you know?

Recommended Posts

It's been disappointing to see this thread abandoned, having got to the stage in the debate where I thought some insight might be about emerge regarding tangible objectives of the "new" RST board. I hope no one will mind too much if I pull this back on to the front page, in the hope that the OP has now had time to gather his thoughts in this respect and might be prepared to share them.

For those who are interested; the Trust has begun a process which will see us re-validate our objectives against our overall aims. When this happens it's normal for some new objectives to emerge (or at the very least, some form of re-prioritisation or re-focus).

I'm going to be heavily involved in this so I'll be happy to advise members and GersNet, as and when.

Cheers.

Just to be clear, what's the difference between an objective and an overall aim? Also, will either actually be published and what is the timeframe for this.

And does it include letting the world know how many members the Trust currently has .... or is that still too damaging to make public?;)

Here is an example of the aims and objectives identified by an Employment Project that wanted to focus on its outcomes:

The overall aim of the project:

"To improve the lives of people in London who are long term homeless"

Within its overall aim it identified the following specific aims.

Specific aims:

To increase users lifestyle stability

To increase users skills

To increase users confidence and motivation

To enable users to find employment

Once it had agreed its aims, the project identified the objectives or the activities/services it was providing to achieve the aims:

Objectives:

To provide information and advice on housing and resettlement

To provide training on core job skills and job search skills

To offer supported work placements

To support users in applying for jobs

To facilitate a support group for users

In this example, there will be various sub-objectives which support the objectives listed above.

As I said, I'll be happy to discuss these things with members and on GersNet, going forward. I can't commit to timescales because it's now WIP and it depends on how quickly we can complete it.

If anyone would like to offer constructive input at this stage i.e. suggested priorities or objectives then I would be delighted to listen to suggestions on the forum or via PM if you prefer.

I wouldn't expect the circulation of membership numbers to be a feature of this type of work.

Thanks for that, genuinely. To be honest, I don't know whether to laugh or laugh even louder. Is it OK to quote you elsewhere? Good to see you've settled in so quickly. :D Good luck with improving the lives of Londoners

But do your best to sneak out those membership numbers when their backs are turned. They guard them very closely but you probably know that by now. ;)

Aims?

The Rangers Supporters Trust has one simple aim: to encourage and facilitate supporters of Rangers FC to buy and hold shares in the club in order to influence future decisions.

If the RST are moving away from this aim then they should perhaps look at stopping calling themselves a Supporters Trust?

Rather than looking at new aims, perhaps they should be revisting their current aim and asking why they are not doing more (/something) in that regard?
