Unemployed Players

Jorge Andrade would be a good defender to pick up if we could persuade him to come on low wages to allow him to attempt to recover from serious injury. Experienced 31yr old defender with 51 caps for Portugal. Moved to Porto in 2000 and after 2 seasons there he made a transfer to Deportivo for £11.5m. Spent 5 years at Deportivo then won himself a £8.9m move to Juventus in the summer of 2007. Unfortunately, since he moved to Juventus he's only played a handful of games & after the reappearance of a serious left knee injury (fracture of the rotula) just over a year ago in their '08 pre season, he's received some operations on it, but in August the club essentially terminated his contract & made a settlement. They announced:-

"On 9 July 2008, during a training session at Pinzolo, the player Almeida Gomes de Andrade, Jorge Manuel, was the victim of another serious injury to his left knee (relapse of the fracture of the rotula) operated twice in the past season. A new osteosynthesis operation was thus needed. The post-surgery prognosis is a number of months. Given the impossibility for the player to recover to play professionally, the company has proceeded to fully write down the residual book value of the player's registration rights with a negative effect on the 2007-08 financial year for ââ??¬ 6.8 million."

Interesting one this, but it sounds like Juventus have been told he's not certain to fully recover.
