DJBlue72 0
Just heard Gavin Rae and Graham Dorrans have been called up ? What does Kevin Thomson need to do to get a call up to Burleys Sqaud ? Is there something i am missing ? Surely he would walk into the current Squad. Or is it another anti Rangers agenda from Burley and the SFA.
Frankie 8,552
Can only assume it is his current combined lack of international experience and fitness... Burely doesn't have much consistency in that regard though.
DJBlue72 0
Surely he is better than Gavin Rae and Graham Doorans ? my mate said Doorans plays in League 2 in England.

Burely doesn't have much consistency in that regard though. Aye, if there was any logic attached to Burley's decisions (cite No Weir but Alexander, Fletcher/Iwelumo over Boyd etc etc) then fair enough. In fact Iwelumo/Fletcher over Boyd was picking lack of experience over experience. And in the case of Iwelumo, McFadden, Gordon, McManus and no doubt many others he has picked players lacking in (match) fitness. Burley's decisions do not appear to conform to typical manager choices, e.g. sticking with tried and trusted experience. Therefore I don't see how he can overlook Thomson. Burley hasn't got a clue.
UCF2008 0
Burely doesn't have much consistency in that regard though. Your not wrong there. McManus is just back from injury and isn't match fit enough to play at club level never mind international. Both Craig Gordon and Alan Hutton are other players that Burley's thrown back in at the deep end despite not being 100%. For the most part it's worked out for him. Why should it be any different in the case of Thomson though? As for experience, between CL football and our UEFA cup run, Thomson has as much as if not more experience of top flight football than half the Scotland squad. If that doesn't count for anything and his decision making is purely based on international experience alone, then wtf is he doing giving the likes of McCormack, Steven Fletcher & Iwellumo their debuts in World Cup qualifiers?

More than Graham Dorrans anyway. And arguably more than Rae, although he's played a few internationals. Dorrans went down South from Livingston but I can't quite remember where. Leeds? Edit: He's at WBA in the Championship. Edited September 7, 2009 by Super_Ally
Norris Cole 0
I'll be the only one happy he doesn't get picked then
Super_Ally 0
I'll be the only one happy he doesn't get picked then I understand the idea that it's a risk players get injured. But on the flip side of that coin, playing international football gives players experience often against top quality opposition and should improve them as a player.

Frankie 8,552
I'd like to see our players improve by playing in international fixtures. But I'd also rather they stayed fully fit which isn't guaranteed unfortunately.. see Lafferty (again) and Miller (again).
