Best news of the day

I'm happy with our summer activity or lack of.

Kept the players we wanted to keep and brought in a left-sided midfielder. Of course I'd have liked a CB but b(h)eggars can't be choosers. ;)

More succinct than me but those are my sentiments exactly.

I have to say I agree with the sentiments expressed in thsi post. The window is closed and we have shifted a lot of fringe players and brought in a surprise addition at the end to balance midfield. As has been said in other threads a new CB might well be added in early January if we are succesful up to that point in Europe. Bring on 53:spl:

I can see DMB buying out his contract and heading for pastures new should he fail to feature by October. I don't know why, I just think he's the kind of man who would rather move on that sit on his arse and get paid.

We'll find out anyway.

He has been doing it for about 6 years.

Sticking with the Boyd theme, surely one of the first things we will do, well between now and January is get his contract sorted?

Not tying him down to a contract could actually end up costing us money. Could leave on a free in the summer or signing a pre-contract in Jan.

There are no realistice circumstances under which not giving Boyd an extension makes any kind of success.

I have to say that keeping the players we already had on the books whilst seeing much deadwood leave makes this transfer window feel like a success to me.

I agree. Sometimes less is more and by trimming the squad down to around 20 but keeping the key players means the squad can be managed a lot easier from a player side plus a morale side. There will be less players with gloom faces at not playing and a smaller squad makes a tighter unit.

Looking forward to seeing Rothen play, he could be the missing piece of the puzzle on that left.

We have good options now for 4-4-2 and 4-3-3. If we go 4-4-2 Id like to see Rothen down the left and Novo down the right with 2 from Thomson, Davis and Mendes in the centre. Although no doubt Davis will be switched back out to the right, which isnt that bad but he is better inside right.
