Just back from the match , really enjoyed it :)

Thought we were brilliant no one let the side down tonight

Had a few Man City fans next to me was good banter with them.

Novo was class in the first half gave their defenders hell

One of the best pre-season games i have ever been too

thought big Davie Weir at the back was imence had Ribena and Adebayor in his pocket :)

Bellamy was a total tool and he hated it and lost the plot he is an overated tosser.

We played really well and played some quality passing football and has gave me a lot more confidence for the coming season if we play like that we will have a good season.

Was a good atmosphere too both sets of fans in good voice

I wish City well in their coming season.

If Boyd gets his fitness level up, he can definitely play up front in the center of the 4-3-3. He'll need a decent run of games in that role to prove it though & it's looking a bit doubtful that he'll get that game time atm. I definitely think he can play the lone striker or in the center of 3 pronged attack, but he just hasn't been given the chance due to the widespread acceptance that he can't do this & can't do that. Well imo, you shouldn't always take widespread opinion as being a FACT. :)

we missed decent chances against Arsenal too and that bothers me quite a bit.

not having a regular goalscorer in the side will cost us in the long run. we need to work round boyd. Its as simple as that. I actually thought he did well when he came on. Made a few decent runs and layed the ball off well too.

love him or loathe him, we need him.

Oh how Barry Ferguson would shine in a team that had lots of movement from players around him

Funny you should say that but whilst watching the game and seeing McCulloch on the ball I thought the exact same thing. The way we played tonight would have been perfect for BF.

Still think him leaving was the right thing for both parties though

The only opinion that matters is the management team's and, when you look at the personnel and formation they have utilised thus far in pre-season, it would suggest that they too don't believe he suits that role.

They see him day in and day out in training so will probably know more than we do.

To be fair to the big man he only got half an hour and hardly enough time to impose himself. But he looked very slow and cumbersome. I dont believe the formation allows for that.

I agree gisabeer, we have missed a LOT of chances in the last couple of pre-season games - chances Boyd likely would have taken. But the formation really doesnt suit him.

I am a Boyd fan but in the formation he isnt effective IMO.

It is a bit of a conundrum though because do you

a) sacrifice the formation to get Boyd in the team OR

b) sacrifice Boyd to maintain the formation

Maybe he will come good and neither is needed but it looks like WS is going with the latter so far.

It also might just be that it is pre-season and match sharpness hasnt materialised yet.

Ha !!

To be fair, McCulloch played reasonably well.... but watching him in there, the way we were playing, made me realise how much better of a player BF is than McCulloch.

That said, there is every chance that BF would have slowed the game down and killed the pace we played at.

Who knows ? We wont find out anytime soon, if ever.

Like Craig, I'm not trying to start a Boydy debate, but there's some things said about him on forums that are simply not true. 'Can't head the ball', 'can't hold the ball up', 'can't play the lone striker', 'can't pass the ball', the list goes on, but these claims or statements (whatever you want to call them) are false imo. He needs to improve his fitness & hopefully improve his pace as well, but other than that, all you're left with to criticise is some poor first touches & mistakes, which are traits that our other strikers also posses.

Tonight's game was absolute brillitant

Great score

Great game

Great football

Great atmosphere

Which i have read through all the posts and you have touched on all of these. Really enjoyed watching the football and going to attack teams !!!

Although i do disagree on a few things, yes it seems Boyd is imobile up front but that is if you are giving the ball up to him to holod on to, the best player for that is either Miller or Lafferty. I think if we worked our passing around Boyd and get crosses into the box etc he will be in their to finish it for us !!!

Also about Whittaker, Whitty goes on some great runs for us and creates space for others, people say he got caught out for the second goal, personally i thought it was offside !! Also he made a last ditch sliding tackle when City were about to scroe near the end of the game !!

If we just manage to tighten the defence up a bit then we will be fine, but saying that if your going more attacking there is the likely chance of more gaps appearing ! As long as we score one more goal than the opposition.

Loved that Captain Dave got the winner, love the big guy !!!

How good was it when Sasa pegged Etuhu right in front of the City fans !!

City fans were great, sitting right next to them as per usual, came up in a good number and in good voice !! Atmosphere was red hot with only probs 40,0000 in the stadium
