RANGERS are set to lose Madjid Bougherra for a MONTH of their SPL title defence.

The Algerian ace looks certain to play in the African Cup of Nations in January.

Algeria are just one win from qualification. If they reach the finals in Angola, the big stopper could miss five or six games.

The tournament starts on January 10 with the final held on January 31.

Gers have a hectic schedule in January which includes a New Year Old Firm derby.

Bougy, who missed two Old Firm clashes last season through injury, will be OK for Parkhead.

But he would head for Africa after the derby and then be forced to miss around five big games.

Bougherra said: "This season I have all of the Scottish competitions, the Champions League and hopefully the World Cup and the African Cup of Nations. I can't wait to go and play in the Champions League against the best in Europe, it's a big test."

Meanwhile, Gers could use Charlie Adam as bait to land Northern Ireland midfield ace Chris Brunt.

Walter Smith is keen on West Brom ace Brunt and Adam may be part of the deal.

Im more worried about him for the start of season 10/11. If he plays in all that games / tournaments he will be burnt out for sure!

Even if they make it to the final he'd only be playing 1 game more than he would have done otherwise.

It's not good to be losing key players at any point of the season, but looking on the bright side, I'll be happy enough if it's Rangers that are missing him for 5 games.

That is the game he will be missing, all winnable without Boogie. The Hearts game might well be the toughest but I would like to think home advantage will prove telling.

Cheers Ally, that seems fine. All winnable without boogie indeed.

Can't take anything for granted of course, but if we don't win those without him we need to ask some serious questions. All teams lose key players during the season to suspension, injury or perhaps fixture conflicts like the African Nations. We should be big enough and strong enough to deal with it.

We're not scheduled to go to Pittodrie, Easter Road, Tannadice or Tynecastle nor do we play and Old Firm whilst Madjid is away. Wait and see what happend when the transfer window opens as we may bring in another decent CB who could partner Weir durin January.
