But he wants to know whether he'll be playing first-team football before he signs. The 21-year-old spent last season on loan at Bradford City, but former Gers star Stuart McCall has admitted defeat in attempts to sign the former Chelsea kid on a permanent basis. "I'm out of contract," said Furman. "There is an offer on the table from Rangers, but as yet I've not accepted it. advertisement "So much is up in the air at the moment. "But hopefully in the next couple of weeks things will become clearer. "I loved by time at Bradford. Regular football was the big thing. "It was senior football as opposed to the reserves. It was the next step in my career and has made me a better player. "I want to be some-where I can get the chance to play every week. "The past season has given me a sniff of that level and I have loved it. "Rangers are a different level, but I feel I can handle the pressure of playing in front of 50,000 fans every week. "My best option is to go where I can get the chance to play. "Hopefully over the next couple of weeks that can be resolved." It is believed Oldham are keen to sign the player who was touted as one for the future when brought to Rangers by Paul Le Guen. Zappa 0 Posted June 25, 2009 Share Posted June 25, 2009 I don't see why we can't give young players like Furman the promise of playing in most of our League & Scottish Cup matches, especially when we're going into the CL group stages. Beyond that, well he'd have to be realistic. A player can have potential but after a year or 2 this runs out and he has to start cutting the mustard, i.e. no long er just be a promising player. He has shown he has the potential, now its time to see if he has it for RFC or not. Personally id like to see him sign on, i think he could be a valuable squad player. But he has a decent argument that it is tough to get a fair crack of the whip at a club like Rangers. You either hit the ground running or you dont. Young Aaron came on the scene and everyone rant and raved about him...i posted on here that i bet we dont see a sniff of him and a few shot me down - we saw him get a total of about 97 minutes. We dont want Furman to be a Namouchi. Namouchi had quite a bit of talent but dont show it in his latter games. Is he a creative midfielder ? If so he could be a back-up for Mendes, but then that means he will struggle to break in ahead of Mendes. I read into what he's saying is that there is no point him signing on to play 100% in the reserves if he can be a first choice elsewhere. I think he'll be realistic enough to realise that he won't be first choice but he may be happy enough with second choice with a handful of starts with plenty of subs appearances. From Rangers point of view, erroneously pandering to young players for the sake of it is not an option - our club is about winning trophies. I think the club have to be honest in assessing Furman's chances and give it to him straight so he can make an informed decision. With regards to Aaron, I think it's naive in the extreme for anyone to think that an untried 19 year old will be put in at the deep end at a club like Rangers, especially when the pressure to win the league was so huge - in fact it's insulting to the stature of Rangers FC to expect more than what he got. We're no diddy feeder team for blooding young players of larger clubs. The fact is, he's only 19, we had him for 2 years and if he was to make an impact it would most likely be in his second season, after the league is won, and when he's aclimatised to a new country and style of football. He also needed to look ready and be showing the right maturity, attitude and ability to fit into the team. The likes of Adam, Lafferty, Davis and Naismith have all been given a run in the team at about 20/21 years old, so there is no issue with players of that age. There's lot of repetition of the phrase, "if you're good enough, you're old enough" however the first clause always seems to be taken for granted. Was Aaron good enough to be old enough? It seems our manager didn't think so, and his is really the only opinion that counts. I still don't understand this current obsession with playing a load of teenagers, we have a pretty young team as it is and I for one see us as a club that should be prioritising playing teams that win us trophies than to play promising youngsters and cross our fingers it will all work out. That's something for lesser clubs to gamble with. Nobody expected Andy Murray to win Wimbledon as a teenager, but now he's into his twenties there is much more expectation. You do get exceptions such as Borris Becker but they are few and far between and I don't think our club has had many equivalents - except maybe Gattuso - a guy who played for us as a teenager under Smith and then was sold by Advocaat... 0 Quote Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Maybe if we had a little more faith in the youth we could have saved the 2.6 mill spent on edu. No complaints on that issue though. Looking to & preparing for the future, we need the strength & enthusiasm of high quality youth like Furman & the younger players Walter's brought to the club. We're no diddy feeder team for blooding young players of larger clubs. Your calling quite a few posters on here naive then as many of them said he would have a huge impact. So why sign him in the first place? Where you insulted when he signed? We did the same with Martin and Bardsley from Man U but they got games, so in respect if any of Europes elite (Valencia are up there for me - or they were 2 years ago) want to send their talented younger players to Ibrox to get first team experience I'll gladly take them in this day in age where we cant afford too many transfer fees. 0 Quote Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
