Novo For Scotland WTF Not ?

Recommended Posts

Should be a Scottish Parent, not interested in anyone who is not remotely Scottish. I used to think England were pathetic for playing John Barnes and Mathew Le Tissier and don't want to go down that road.

We might do better with a bunch of foreigners but then who the hell would we be? I want to be proud of a Scotland team if they do well but how can I do that if the team improve but are not even Scottish?

A club team can have anyone but I already have one of those to follow and no room for an other, my national side is different otherwise why support the team at all?

The worst thing is that we'd be selling out for a good but in international terms, nothing special player who is nearing the end of his career. That would be very sad indeed and definitely not something to be proud of.

Get your point about John Barnes (born in Jamaica of Jamaican parents) but Le Tissier was born in the Channel Islands. What was his nationality? It's only a gentlemen's agreement prevents them playing for any other home nation, so I think england claimed then on the grounds that they were resident and played their carrers in England. On that basis we could go for Novo and they could have Almunia. On the whole you're right - who would want to end up like the RoI? What a joke team.

It baffels me why if Novo is eligeble for Scotland why is he not chosen ?

we have called up plenty of Englishmen over the years have we not ?

i know this is an old chestnut but it annoys me as a die hard Rangers fan i see what the wee man is capable of , he is a born match winner and has scored so many important goals for the Gers its unreal.

If we called him up whats stopping him transfering that record onto the International scene ?

The Tartan army knob heads will be against it because he is a Bear if he still played for Dundee , would they feel the same ?? ... I dont think so.

I love the wee man and the fact he is eligable to play for my national team and is ignored hurts me as its only not to offend the TA and beyond.

Are we the only counrty in the world today who would be stupid enough to ignore a player obviously good enough to enhance the current national team and give a goal threat and match winning capabillity ?

I am Rangers till i die , but i am also Scottish/British and i want to see this country doing well but with no imediate outstanding players in the squad surely adding a match winning Spainard cant be as bad as the SFA makes it out to be.

I Repeat

Nacho Novo for Scotland. :)

:rfc:

As much as I love wee Nacho, I don't think it is the way forward for our international selection process.

Ok, I'll give them the Channel Islanders although I actually got the player wrong and instead it was Le Saux. Still not very English though and I'm not sure who a Manxman would play for.

No excuse for Barnes, he should have played for Jamaca and it was very unfair to a country who could really do with all their best players. England have enough to choose from.

Jason Scotland for us would have been more understandable... ;)

I just think when other Countries are doing it, why not join in. Novo would undoubtedly be an asset to the Squad if we were to make it to Africa. He's the type of player that could even help us get there, but for all the reasons mentioned by others here, it's not likely to happen. I bet if Novo thought there was a chance to play in the World Cup & he was offered it, he'd jump at it!

Simple. He is Spanish, not Scottish.....the only similarity is both nationalities beginning with a capital S :D

But it's ok to call up & play a player who's mother was born in Scotland then emigrated abroad with her parents as a child, grew up in that foreign country, gave birth to and raised said player in that foreign country, where the player stayed and has played his football career to date??? On the other hand, players like Novo who've played most of their footballing career in a country, married, started a family & are eligible for a passport in that country are not eligible? Seems a bit stupid to me. Well actually, Novo IS eligible according to the International rules. It's just this unofficial home nations gentleman's agreement that's the issue.

Just my personal opinions Shroomz. There may be certain circumstances but I dont think Novo is one. Like I said, born in Scotland or your not Scottish no matter the Scottish roots you have.

Put it this way, my dad was in the RAF and English, I could easily have been bolrn there but wasn't. IF HOWEVER i was, I would be English, not Scottish, the place of my birth and where I have lived for all my life bar 5 years

I don't see any legitimacy in the home nations agreement on this matter. Fair enough for games between home nations sides or for small home nations competitions if they arise, but for international football, where our home nations agreement has no legal legitimacy, I think the agreement is racial discrimination.
