Zappa 0
Last year I posted a thread on this forum basically highlighting the fact that I couldn't walk in to a JJB store in Lanarkshire & buy a Rangers strip. I went to 4 or 5 stores within a reasonable area of where I live & not ONE of them had a Rangers strip for me. At the time, I honestly thought there was something fishy about it & my concerns have now been backed up. Rangers have just won a double; the SPL Title & the Scottish Cup and yet despite this being an obvious time for strips to sell really well, I walk into 3 JJB stores in Lanarkshire today looking for a Gers strip, only to find that they don't have any Gers strips, but they've got plenty of Celtic strips. Well, WTF is going on? Lets cut to the absolute basics here - JJB need to sell things to be a profitable business, right? JJB also have a deal with Rangers to be exclusive sellers of Rangers strips, right? So why the f*ck can't I walk in to a JJB store in Lanarkshire & buy a Rangers strip? The mind boggles. The only thing I could have bought today from JJB was kiddies shorts. THIS IMO is one of the reasons that JJB are struggling as a company & much more importantly, one of the reasons that Rangers Football Club aren't making as much money as they should be. I have to say that I'm now utterly disgusted with JJB sports service to their deal with Rangers & that the sooner we bin them in favour of a more sensible & ultimately, profitable option, the better. Anybody got a stall at the Barras?
Jon 0
My local stores in Elgin and Inverness have loads of Rangers stuff last time I was in....
Frankie 8,696
Mate, you are completely correct. The whole situation with regard to the Umbro deal running out this summer (and being extended with no publicity) yet no design available, no pre-order available and no old strips for sale either, is nothing short of crazy for JJB (and to a lesser extent) the club. JJB pay a lot of money to Rangers to supply our strips yet apparently refuse to stock and sell the kind of amounts that would make deal a good one for them. It is bizarre. And, while RFC may be happy as long as the money flows in from the deal, the customer is once again being sold short. Unacceptable doesn't begin to describe this.
Zappa 0
Frankie, I'm at the point where I just want the JJB deal to end asap & for RFC to set about opening their own stores in the right places - stores which will actually always stock the strips etc etc, at all times!!
Frankie 8,696
Problem is if the JJB deal ended early, I couldn't see Rangers having the money to make the initial investment required into opening and stocking new stores again.
Bluedell 5,788
Perhaps JJB would make a payment to get out of the deal, although I don't know whether they have the cash for that either?
Frankie 8,696
Possibly BD. As with lots of things about our club at the moment, it is all a bit strange even if we do OK financially out of it.
Zappa 0
Problem is if the JJB deal ended early, I couldn't see Rangers having the money to make the initial investment required into opening and stocking new stores again. It's all about sourcing the right contractors & making them compete for the work. The setting up of a seriously lavish Rangers store in Glasgow CC (not counting rent etc) shouldn't be any more than about 150-200k, but you can be sure that it would somehow manage to cost the club at least double that amount, possibly tripple. For small stores scattered around Scotland in shopping complexes in major towns & cities, the shopfitting expenses per store should be 30-40k max, but somehow the club would need 100k per dinky little store. Basically, someone or some people need/s to be employed that know the business of shopfitting & interior decorating. Now, I'm not saying that person is me, but what I AM saying is that you could easily open about 10+ Rangers shops across Scotland for an initial outlay of less than 1 million pounds. Rent & staff wages would come on top of that, but the initial costs don't need to be massive & tbh if they are massive the client paying the massive bill is getting shafted.
Wija 0
As far as I am aware, the deal was they gave the money up front. So we have had the money. Also they promised that they would deliver Rangers merchandise to the whole of the UK and beyond as they were an international brand and they would make us the same. They have totally failed to deliver any Rangers strips south of the border, never mind abroad. And if you can't get them in Lanarkshire then the have failed to meet there terms in the contract. Get them to fcuk.
Cotter 0
Well I dunno about you chaps but evrey time I go to Glasgow Airport and see a bheggar store and no Rangers representation whatsoever I feel sick. JJB have been a complete embarassment to the club as far as I can see. Many bears hark back to the weeks leading up to Manchester and the fact that you couldn't get a strip for love nor money. What a complete shambles that was. Scabby wee shops with absolutely no international outlets. Our relationship with these fools reeks of the dreaded short-termism we have all come to detest. The sooner we get Nike or Adidas back the better for all of us; style boys and realists alike.
