Bougherra set to play

Recommended Posts

Rangers defender Madjid Bougherra is likely to be cleared of the red card which he received following his challenge on Aberdeen keeper Jamie Langfield.

The SFA announced today that Referee Stuart Dougal has reviewed his decision to red card Bougherra, which was taken after consultation with his assistant referee.

Bougherras involvement in Rangers vital last game of the season against Dundee United will now be down to the SFA review panel, who are likely to reduce the booking to a yellow card, allowing him to play.

Kyle Lafferty has also been referred to the review panel along with Aberdeens Charlie Mulgrew.

The Rangers striker pretended to be head-butted by the Dons left back after the pair faced-off, earning Mulgrew a straight red card.

Television replays clearly showed Mulgrew to be innocent of the charge, while Laffertys own damning performance as he rolled around the ground has now earned him a disciplinary review.

Lafferty has already publicly apologised for ââ?¬Å?the biggest mistake of my career" but will likely be sanctioned by the SFA, while Mulgrew will have his red card rescinded.

And from the SFA website.....

Madjid Bougherra and Kyle Lafferty of Rangers and Charlie Mulgrew of Aberdeen have been referred to the Scottish FA Review Panel.

Referee Stuart Dougal, having reviewed the footage of the match, has decided that the incident that took place between Mulgrew and Lafferty should not have resulted in a red card for the Aberdeen player. It will now be for the Review Panel to decide what, if any action, should be taken against Mulgrew.

The Review Panel will also consider whether or not Kyle Lafferty has a case to answer when it comes to committing an alleged act of simulation. Should they decide that there is a case to answer, the matter will be referred to the next meeting of the Scottish FA Disciplinary Committee.

Referee Stuart Dougal has also reviewed the circumstances surrounding the sending off of Madjid Bougherra. The player had been dismissed as a result of what the Assistant Referee considered to be an act of violent conduct by the player following the initial challenge on the Aberdeen goalkeeper. Having examined the footage, the referee has decided that the player should not have received a red card for violent conduct. It will now be for the Review Panel to decide what, if any, action should be taken against the player.

The Review Panel will be convened this week. It is made up of a former player, manager and referee.

Well, the case has successfully gone through a shite referee. Now the real test - the Rangers-hating beaks at the SFA.

Expect all manner of 'sporting integrity' mock outrage from various Sellick-minded rent-a-gubs in this week's press.

So you think it likely that the review panel will listen to the Herald before the advice of the match official ?

Possibly. The SPL/SFA are full of fuckwits out to make a name for themselves.

Fair point. But even given their stupidity surely the only thing they can do is use the advice of the ref, who in this case says it should have been a yellow (and I think even THAT is being harsh !!)

And why are they leaving it until Friday?? Why cant they just get it done first thing in the week to allow the teams to prepare!!

This is another example of people in power abusing their position rather than actually doing a good job. It wouldnt matter if it was Bougherra or Tokely of Caley, they should sorted these things out by Tuesday at the latest.
