Ibrox stars not for sale if Rangers clinch SPL title and Champions League spot

Recommended Posts

Hemdani somehow slipped my mind when earlier he was top of my list!

I can see Boyd go if we get another offer from Birmingham as now they are promoted they are in a position to up his wage offer. 3.5M is not bad for a player who cost us 500k and completely splits the fans and the mind of the manager.

Hopefully we can get a similar amount for MacGregor and maybe a million or two for the rest.

If we automatically qualify for the CL that could give us possibly up to 5M to spend on replacements, with enough wages saved for about 4 players and some change.

As for Bougherra, if he wants to stay and we make the sales above, I think it would be folly for SDM to sell him. I think he knows he was on dodgy ground with Cuellar and I can't see him so obviously alienating the fans two years in a row. I think he's too clever for that. You can only push your customers [sic] so far before they start to decide to spend their money elsewhere.

I'm confident he'll be around for one more season, after all it's best not to sell all your family silver at once, especially when it brings paying customers to your stately home.

McCulloch is another who id get rid of but I can see him staying.

Unless Stoke want to come back in with that 1.8M bid

You been drinking again Gribz :fish:

I hope he is one to leave but who would take him with the wages he would want. Maybe a championship team or big Eck

Even if he did go I doubt we would get much for him!!

Didnt Stoke come in with a bid between 1-2 million last summer??

I don't see why McLeish would want to buy Boyd now that he is in the EPL. There are better options that he can go for.

I also don't see us being able to spend any of the CL cash. We are looking at a £12m+ loss this year before the sale of players, so that the CL cash will do is be used for day-to-day expenses, including wages. I can't see any way that we will be spending anywhere near £5m.

Yes, the wage bill will be down next season, but that doesn't allow us to use any of the savings. Our borrowing position from the bank was very bad, and would be catastrophic if we didn't win the league. Murray can't risk putting the club in the position again. We have to get the debt level down.

McCulloch is another I've forgotten. Looks like we have plenty of candidates for a clearance sale well before we get to the fans player of the year.

I would even prefer to see Mendes go before Bougherra, although I'd like him to stay another year and show what he can really do.

So the list is:

MacGregor - 3.5M?

Daily - 0

Weir - 0

Webster - 0

Hemdani - 0

Gow - 250k?

Ferguson - 500k?

Adam - 250k?

Beasley - 750k?

McCulloch - 250k?

Boyd - 3.5M?

That's a whole team and maybe 9M coming in.

Which leaves:

Alexander/Smith

Whittaker/Broadfoot

Bougherra

Papac/Smith

Davis/Novo

Mendes/Furman

Thomson/Edu

Naismith/Aaron

Miller/Velicka

Lafferty/Fleck/Lennon

with question marks over S.Smith, Lennon and maybe Naismith.

So the priority for coming in is two centre backs, maybe a left back, a creative centre midfileder and a left winger.

A real quality striker would be good for the CL but I'm probably dreaming there.

I definitely think we need 2 players for every position in a basic squad of 22 plus about 6 youngters.

I think we could still fetch a least 1 million for Ferguson.

But freeing up Hemdani and Ferguson is a huge weight off the wage bill. They take in over 40k a week between them and that could be invested wisely.

Looking at your squad after the departures Id say we might have to go for a keeper. Alexander may start the season as No.1 but Im not to sure about Smith as a strong enough No.2. Perhaps he needs a loan spell like McGregor did and we could get a decent loan keeper.

A new centre half has to be a priority to partner Bougherra. Whether Webster is a contender is another story but as well as Weir has done I dont think he has 40 games in his locker next season. I really hope the Lee Wilkie rumour doesnt come about again.

I feel we are ok in midfield. Mendes, Davis, Edu and Thomson are fine for the centre with Furman and another being back up.

Im not sure about the wide roles. Davis will probably still play right (even though he is better in the middle). Id give Aaron a chance next season if not then there is no point in him staying. And on the right I prefer Novo but id be happy to make a decent signing who can play either wing.

Upfront I expect Lafferty to be a key player next year. Considering we started this season 9 strikers i have no idea who WS will sign here. I can see Lee Miller being signed unfortuntaly. Lovenkrands has been linked a lot so he is another option to go with Miller and Velicka.
