johnnyk 158
Rangers midfielder Barry Ferguson returns to training with first team ahead of Old Firm showdown BARRY FERGUSON returned to first team training with Rangers today - sparking speculation that he could be set for a sensational recall in Saturday's Old Firm game. Ferguson had been expected to be out for the remainder of the season after suffering a calf strain in a reserve match with Hearts at Forthbank Stadium last month. It was even suggested the midfielder, who had been fined, suspended and stripped of the captaincy after the Boozegate scandal, would never play for the Ibrox club ever again. However, the 31-year-old took a full part in a session at Murray Park this morning - where he was joined by former skipper Richard Gough. Walter Smith's side can move two points clear at the top of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League table with three games remaining if they beat their city rivals at the weekend. With an automatic place in the group stages of the Champions League, and a potential £10 million windfall, going to the winners of the league this season there is massive pressure on the cash-strapped Gers to win. If Ferguson is fit, Smith could be tempted to bring the hugely-experienced player back into his starting line-up - especially as Celtic have their own midfield problems with Scott Brown suspended and Barry Robson still searching for a return. Maurice Edu has performed well alongside Pedro Mendes in the boiler room in Ferguson's absence and has helped the Glasgow club win six games in succession. However, the 23-year-old United States internationalist has never featured in the world-famous fixture before and could be dropped if his team mate is available.
