Playing one or two players out of position isn't an issue, it is something that most managers do now and again. However, the issue I have with Walter Smith is that, on more than one occaision, we were playing 40-50% of our outfield players out of position.

I'm suprised no one has questioned the £700k price tag for a still unproven player (potential one season wonder?) when we are supposedly skint can we afford money like that on a player who is an unknown quantity in terms of playing for a team like Rangers.

Would that be paid over 5 to 10 years, we are in financial abiss!

Would you rather we paid £4m for another unknown, untested, player like Lafferty?

I've seen enough of Dorman over two seasons to believe he can do a job for us.

No, I wouldn't have bought him first time around.

Though he was starting to come onto a game.

Every transfer is a gamble. I would just be wary of getting our fingers burned with this one.

Dorman at 700k plus his wages would negate Hemdani's wages. Hemdani isnt even close to the team so he will leave. The question is though.... will Dorman get close to the team ?

Financially Hemdani leaving and Dorman joining would be awash.

It's obviously virtually impossible to tell how any player will perform for a new side.

I think therefore, we have to less stuck up thinking that a player of Dormans 'standard' won't be able to do anything for us. (Talking generally there)

There have been plenty of players signed for Rangers that we have looked at and could't believe we signed, yet funnily enough almost always it's these players who over perform and win over the fans.

I'll always remember Stuart Munro bought from Alloa when all the Terry Butchers and Chris Woods were being brought in. At that point hardly anyone even noticed him, but even now he is a cult hero and gave so many fine performances at left back.

More than that, it tends usually to be the big signings like Kyle Lafferty who disapoint or take an age to do something constructive.

So, in my mind, i'm willing to give the guy a go. As i have said, my attention has been drawn towards him in games i've watched of him and i have definetly been impressed.

But, the proof of Dormans ability will only come out if we do sign him and he is given a fair chance in Midfield.

What i don't want to see is us signing him and him rotting away in the reserves. If that were to happen i'd rather he stayed with St.Mirren and continued to impress for tham.

Your last couple of sentences sum up the crux of the issue for me John.

I'd argue Gow was far more impressive at Falkirk and look at how his signing has gone. Not saying that definitely rules out Dorman being a success if he were to sign. But it is a worrying indicator.

I just don't see him cementing a starting spot and so at £700k we might be better served using a youth player in his potential place in the squad.

It's an extremely good point SA.

But, Walter doesn't seem too keen on playing the youths he brings through, which inturn, would equally be a waste of cash!

True John but at least those youths brought through wouldnt cost the club in terms of transfer fees.
