One Sunday newspaper claimed Brown had been lucky to avoid punishment from national boss George Burley after joining the ditched Rangers pair in drinking towards lunchtime at the Cameron House Hotel. Bedtime story: Brown That accusation has, however, been flatly dismissed by Hampden insiders, who are convinced the Celtic midfielder had returned to his room at between 8am and 9am ââ?¬â? at least three hours before Ferguson and McGregor ended their marathon session. Brown was one of four other Scotland players who had been in the Great Scots bar at the team hotel after Burley allowed the squad to have a drink following their 4am arrival from a 3-0 defeat against Holland in Amsterdam. The Scotland manager has to submit a full written report on the affair ahead of the SFA board meeting that takes place on Thursday, but sources within the SFA were keen to clarify the level of Brownââ?¬â?¢s involvement. It remains to be seen what further action or recommendations will this week be made by the board ââ?¬â? which includes president George Peat and chief executive Gordon Smith ââ?¬â? but a tightening of disciplinary procedures around the national side seems inevitable. Last Thursday, Smith said Scotland players would be issued with a new code of conduct in a statement that also referred to the Ferguson and McGregor affair as being ââ?¬Ë?closedââ?¬â?¢. Peat, however, demanded a full inquiry and the subsequent public outcry over the childish V-signs the players made, after being dropped to the bench for the 2-1 win over Iceland, forced a rethink on Friday morning.
