Rangers midfielder in Fulham link

Recommended Posts

How many make it to the Premiership as a first team choice? And even extending that to every club in Scotland, the answer is very few.

Fans berate Rangers managers for not playing youth players and then ironically berate them again for signing the best young players from the SPL or SFL as unambitious.

No matter what Rangers coaches do, we can realistically expect to regularly produce a much higher standard of player than the rest of Scotland put together, and if the rest of Scotland's youth is not good enough for us, why would our young players be so?

Most of the half decent young Rangers players end up back in the SPL for another team - Hughs, Malcolm etc or carve out a career as a journeyman Football League player with the odd sniff of the Premiership.

The likes of Stevie MacLean and Ross MacCormack are still not up to the standard we crave.

My point is that the Arsenals and the Manu's still seem to have a better track record than we do of giving youth a chance- young Wellbeck is a case in point. And that is despite their huge buying power. We should develop a reputation of being a place where good young youth can get a chance. If big clubs buy in our youth they will only rot in the reserves given the enormous squads they have.

By the way I think Ross McCormack has blossomed away from Scotland. what does that say about our coaching system?
