Am I the only one who thinks he's pulling the wool over our eyes with his constant inept performances? Granted, he's probably been one of our better performers and probably our best player this season with the exception of Boogie but I wouldn't say that as a compliment, it just goes to show how garbage the rest of the team are.

 

Apart from his goal against Sellick and his goal against Plastic Whistle what else has the guy done that sticks out in peoples minds?

 

There's absolutely no doubting he has the quality, he's a CL winner with Porto so maybe it's the tactics that his current manager deploys that don't allow his talents to shine through. I'm hoping if that is the case then if/when WS decides to it chuck our next manager can bring the best out of Mendes.

 

Is there more to come from him or is what we're seeing at present the best it's going to get?

I take it that you're not counting all his defense splitting passes & assists for goals? We've scored at least 75 goals this season so far & Mendes has been involved in a lot of those.

I expected better from the guy though. Maybe it's me who needs to have a reality check here and not expect much anymore from the players.

Mendes is under-performing, of that there is no doubt. Sadly he one of a number. Is it their fault ? Is it the coaching ? Is it the tactics ? the formation ?

 

I don't know but what I do know is that if we dont sort this out quickly then our season will be in a shambles with NO silverware to show for it.

I expected better too Gazza. As I said on Cammy's thread, I'm really getting sick of the negative brand of midfield play we've apparently mastered. Forget standing up & being counted, taking on players & attacking the opposition, just take the easy option 9 times out of 10 & pass the ball back the way. I'm losing count of the number of times I see Fergie & Mendes being passed the ball from defense only to pass it back to defense again. Ok, there's a time for doing that, but that time isn't ALL of the time.

 

These guys should be on a 'win if you want paid' salary IMO.

I wrote in a post a while back that nobody shines or stands out in walters regime.

 

Mendes is the latest casualty. McCulloch, whittaker, Adam, Beadsley, to name a few all looked decent prospects but in a very short period of time most seem to suffer a severe form dip and get in a rut.

 

The biggest problem with walter smiths tactics is that they require very little football to be played. No skill involved, no imagination. And over the last two years just about everyone in our side has had the footballing life sucked out of them. That is what is wrong with Rangers.

 

We played the 451 formation last season and for a length of time we got away with it. But when it came to the business end of the season Walter stuck to his guns with the same old plan and got found out.

 

We got found out in the league, we got found out in the Uefa cup final and we even got found out in the CL qualifiers. And we got found out yesterday.

 

Go top of the league if we beat Aberdeen? No well stick to the 451 with saftey in mind. have a go at an under performing Celtic to go top of the league? no thanks wel ljust play it safe.

 

Theres a bit of a pattern forming there Walter. I can see it. The guys who sit around me at Ibrox can see it. STEVIE FUCKING WONDER CAN SEE IT! WHY THE BLODDY HELL CANT YOU!

 

The thing is, I think quite a lot of our squad have actually forgotten how to play the game properly. Pass and move? Boss the opposition? Dominate games?

 

Not in walters game plan im afraid.

 

We are never better than the opposition. not because they are better though.

 

Its quite simple, we never try to be.

 

Like last season we will see walter pick the likes of McCulloch and Dailly over Fleck, Arron, Naismith and Novo and we will slowly disintigrate as the weeks go by.

 

But even if the likes Of Fleck and Aaron do get a run in the team, how long will it take before theyre in the rut with the others?

 

Not very is my guess.
