Mourinho 'assault' investigated

Recommended Posts

Police are investigating an allegation of common assault made against Jose Mourinho after a Champions League tie.

It has been alleged the Inter Milan manager punched a supporter as he left Old Trafford stadium after his team's defeat by Manchester United.

Police have contacted United to request CCTV footage of the area and have confirmed a complaint has been made.

A spokesman for Manchester United confirmed they are aware of the allegation but made no further comment.

Mourinho criticised

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: "Just before midnight on Wednesday 11 March 2009 a man reported he'd been punched in the face outside Old Trafford.

"Police are investigating this common assault allegation. Inquiries are ongoing."

The allegation came at the end of a bad night for Mourinho, who watched his team crash out of the Champions League following their defeat, with Nemanja Vidic and Cristiano Ronaldo grabbing goals for United at the start of each half.

Mourinho has come under attack from the Italian media for his failure to get Inter through to the last eight teams in the competition.

The plane taking the Inter party back to Milan left Manchester at 0025 GMT.

Nothing surprises me about him. He seems such a cool, calm and collected guy but on the other hand fans wind him up something rotten and it was only a matter of time before he did something daft.

The story could be totally false though.

The story could be true but the allegation false... You've really got to wonder at these people who are constantly accusing famous people of innocuous stuff.

He most likely just pushed some arsehole away from him.

Even if the likes of Morinho smacked me a good one after I taunted him, I'd think I'd be man enough to take it and leave it there. If he stabbed me, then maybe then I'd have a real complaint...

It used to be that managers and players were given a bit of respect but you have so many idiots these days who act up and then try to twist the laws to make a name for themselves.
