He was sent home from training on Tuesday after an argument with manager Walter Smith - something assistant boss Ally McCoist would not be drawn on. "Unfortunately, I've got no comment to make at all," he said. "Any situation involving Kris Boyd and the manager is between those two. I don't know enough about it." The player and Smith had words about his reaction to his latest exclusion from the starting line-up. Boyd was among the substitutes for the Scottish Cup win over Hamilton. The striker - who has scored 24 goals this season so far - played the final 25 minutes of Sunday's comfortable cup win but failed to find the net. You have to conduct yourself fine when you're on the park but equally off the park. It goes for any Old Firm player Rangers assistant manager Ally McCoist McCoist confirmed that Boyd attended training with his team-mates on Wednesday and will be considered for selection for Sunday's Co-operative Insurance Cup final against Old Firm rivals Celtic. Should Boyd not feature for the holders from the start against the Parkhead side, there are no suggestions it would be due to this latest development. Asked if Boyd would be considered for the game, McCoist said: "Without doubt. When you look at the squad, we've got 25 or 26 players available then we'll narrow it down and take a squad away. "Kris Boyd has not been ruled out by me, you'll have to ask the manager. "Nothing's happened that'll prevent us from having the idea of the best team that will start the game. Nothing has happened. That will not change. "I'll give an honest opinion - we'll all sit down and give honest opinions on who we think should start. That's the way it should be and that's the way it will be." McCoist, who himself spent many a frustrating spell on the bench, did have advice for Boyd - and others - on how to handle being dropped from the starting 11. "I would give all the players the same advice as it's part and parcel of being involved in an Old Firm squad," he said. "You have to conduct yourself fine when you're on the park but equally off the park. It goes for any Old Firm player. "I think in recent months there's been one or two things happening off the field which have happened for the last 100 years. Let's not make any mistake about it. "It's in everyone's best interests to nullify them. I wouldn't single out Kris Boyd for advice any more than I would Kenny Miller or Kyle Lafferty. "They're all in the same boat and know what's expected of them being a Rangers player." Despite the bust-up, McCoist claims he would be more disappointed if any player showed no reaction to being left on the bench. MY SPORT: DEBATE Is this the end for Kris Boyd at Rangers? "If anybody's not in the team - not just Kris Boyd - and were happy then we've got a problem, lets not make any mistake about that," he added. "There was nobody dropped out of their team more than myself during my career. "So there's no difference whether you're Kenny Miller being left out of the last Celtic game or you're Kirk Broadfoot not making it and playing Steven Whittaker instead. You have to react to it in the right manner. "And hopefully our whole squad will react to it in the right manner." The news comes during an eventful year for Boyd off the park. In October, and after spending all 90 minutes of the World Cup qualifier with Norway on the bench, Boyd announced he would not play for the Scotland national team under the stewardship of George Burley again. He also made a rare Old Firm derby start during the 1-0 defeat to Celtic in December and seldom featured from the start as the club progressed to last season's Uefa Cup campaign. The player was the subject of a failed Birmingham City bid in January as Rangers attempted to balance the books. Zappa 0 Posted March 12, 2009 Share Posted March 12, 2009 Something that pisses me off about all this shit stirring we get week in week out & especially on Old Firm week is that it must be distracting for the players & coaching staff. I mean, they must have been getting hounded by the press in the last couple of days & having all this pish to deal with is a total farce when they should have better things to do & to be thinking about. Little nugget of truth is that the coaching staff will probably have spent more of their time doing interviews this week than will have spent coaching the team on ways to improve our set piece taking. 0 Quote Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
