  1. AC Milan v Arsenal, (agg 0-0), Barcelona v Celtic, (agg 3-2), Man Utd v Lyon, (agg 1-1), R1, Sevilla v Fenerbahce, (agg 2-3), I can see a score draw at the San Siro with Arsenal going through on away goals. 3 home wins in the other games for me sending all 3 through.
  2. Right then, lets see who we narrow down to the most unliked Celtic XI. We can all list players then put them in a team. I'll start by putting in the gimmies: Arthur Borac has to be the most hated keeper they have had. Anton Rogan will probably fit in at LB (although he was generous at giving us Penalties). But who else in defence - Roy Aitken maybe? Although I dont mind him these days. The midfield HAS to consist of Neil Lennon and Peter Grant. McGeady could figure. Upfront Andy Walker may be a possibility but i dont want to take all the lime light, so il leave it up to all of us: So far thats: Borac Rogan Grant Lennon
  3. I remember some comments online roughly around early Jan, were some fans were not overly happy with things despite us being top of the league. There arguement being that we were worse off points wise than Celtic were at the same point last season. Arguing essetnially quality in the league was diminshing. So after our continued run of 10 league victories I was wondering if anyone knows how Celtic and ourselves were sitting after an equal number of matches last season to that which we have played now?
  4. There is just too much green on show. The pitch, the seats, the fans clothes and both teams - horrible site. How thick are Celtic - there away strip is also green, the purpose of a changed strip is to have different colours for the likes of this game. Bassa - Hibs just had a goal chopped off

  6. -----------------------------Time--------TV Hibernian v Celtic------------12:30------*** Falkirk v Motherwell----------15:00 Gretna v Dundee United------15:00 Inverness CT v Hearts--------15:00 Kilmarnock v St Mirren--------15:00 Rangers v Aberdeen----------15:00 To a certain extent the roles have been turned around as from Wednesday, with Rangers supporters looking for an Edinburgh club to do us a favour. Celtic make the journey to Easter road hoping to avenge their defeat there earlier in the season, thanks to two blunders by Boruc. Hibs have returned to form since Mixu Paatelainen took over the reigns. Easter road is always a difficult game and has been a nightmare for goalkeepers of late. Celtic will put the pressure on Rangers by moving to within one point if they win but will give us an extra reason to fight for the win if they drop some points. I am hoping for at least a draw here but a Hibs win would be fantastic. Draw. Motherwell have had a dip of late only picking up one point in their last two games against Hearts and Aberdeen. Falkirk lost to a rejuvenated Hibs on Wednesday so both teams will be looking to get back on track. I will take Motherwell to shade this one as i feel they can play as good in away games as at home and they have simply better players. Motherwell win. Gretna v Dundee UTD. Remember all those games ago Dundee United could have topped the league by beating Gretna. They failed then against a Gretna team that had hardly won a point. Gretna have been showing a bit of form recently losing to Rangers with a good performance and beating Kilmarnock 4-2 on Wednesday. Personally i think Gretna are the hungrier team at the moment and i think they will pull off another shock. Gretna win. Inverness get a visit from Hearts and this looks like the best draw on paper for me. I feel Inverness at home will be good enough to hold a Hearts team who have just sold their top goal scorer.I don't see Inverness strong enough to beat Hearts so that leaves the draw. Draw. Killie against StMirren is another of those games that could go either way depending on the teams that turn up. In the last two games Killie destroyed Aberdeen but got drubbed by Gretna. St Mirren were robbed of a point against Celtic and luckily took a point against Dundee Utd. I am going for the Mirren on this one St Mirren win. Hopefully with Rangers and Aberdeen both teams will run to form. Rangers have won their last ten games and Aberdeen have taken one point in eighteen. If Rangers hit the form we did against hearts they can put our name on the SPL trophy but unfortunately until now this was together with the Celtic game at Ibrox, more of an incident than a regular happening. Aberdeen always step up a gear against us but hopefully we are starting to show the stuff champions are made of. Rangers win.
  7. Feb 23 2008 Exclusive by Keith Jackson NEWCASTLE boss Kevin Keegan has begun laying the foundations for a s12million summer bid for Celtic golden boy Aiden McGeady. Record Sport can reveal Keegan had to abort a plan to run the rule over the player in person at Wednesday night's Champions League clash with Barcelona. He instead sent right hand man Terry McDermott to Glasgow, along with a senior director from St James Park. McDermott returned south to tell Keegan it will take "funny money" to tempt Celtic into selling the fabulously-gifted 21-year-old. Now Keegan will spend more time monitoring the player and deciding whether or not to weigh in with a massive cash offer at the end of the season. Keegan has been promised a s50m war chest to rebuild his firstteam squad when the transfer market reopens for business and is keen to draw up a list of priority targets as early as possible. But McDermott did not see enough of McGeady's skills against Barca to be convinced the Republic of Ireland international is worth such a huge chunk of Keegan's budget. Newcastle believe it will require a bid of at least s12m to bring Celtic to the table but McGeady was not given the chance to justify that massive fee on a night when Celtic were dominated and defeated by the classy Catalan outfit. Keegan, though, remains a big admirer and will track the winger's form over the coming weeks as he prepares to reconstruct an ailing side flirting with a top-flight relegation battle.
  8. Celtic fans are expecting us to drop points tonight. Lets get a good win tonight and give them a right boot in the balls !!! :uzi:

  10. Calling Full-Time on Sectarianism, December 2006 http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Publications/2006/12/11144623/0 The 'Sectarianism in Football Working Group' Provide a strategy and action points for tackling sectarinism (sic) in football. Hot air or meaningful, objective action on solving one part of Scotland's so-called secret shame? Fast forward just over one year >>> Another away match - another game where Celtic fans flout regulations their supporters helped set up and enforce. At Ibrox Stadium, Celtic Park, Tynecastle Park, Dens Park, Caledonian Stadium, Rugby Park and Love Street, they have sung chants about 'huns' (as well as songs in support of the IRA). We all note the perceived religious affiliation of the recipients of these 'hun' chants. In Inverness and in Edinburgh, police action (including arrests) was taken against the perpetrators and the matter reported to the football authorities - including the SPL. Incredibly SPL action appears non-existent given the repeated breaches of their 'Unacceptable Conduct' rules - even more so when once considers another club has been warned for only one breach despite the same SPL observer (Alan Dick) being present in two of these games involving the two different clubs. Furthermore, another SPL Observer (Andy Ritchie - former Celtic player) has been present at least 2 of these Celtic games also. Indeed, he was bizarrely quoted in a newspaper that these songs were accepted because they celebrated Celtic's Irish background. Is he a member of the Celtic Trust one wonders? I've also read concerned fans who contact Iain Blair about the inconsistencies above say he dismisses their complaints because the SPL are unable to provide a list of terms/songs in relation to the 'Unacceptable Conduct' rules. The SPL also suggest club punishment is unsuitable because the clubs involved are being seen to discharge their duties to avoid such behaviour. I think that's true for one club whose fans have acted to remove any contentious terms. I'm not so sure for another club whose fans ignore any criticism of their behaviour and continue to revel in such unacceptable behaviour. As such, taking all the above information into account, I think the SPL need to answer the following key questions: 1. Would they agree with several Scottish police forces that the term 'hun' is used by Celtic supporters in a sectarian context? By refusing to act they are suggesting it's suitable. That is causing further confusion and division ââ?¬â?? not removing it. 2. Given the continual police action on this issue and the constant repugnant behaviour of the Celtic support (home and away) in singing these songs, do the SPL consider Celtic FC are doing enough to ensure the removal of terms such as 'hun', 'DOB' and songs in support of the IRA from their fans? It's obvious they are not so the SPL's continued prevarication regarding 'discharge of duties' is no longer acceptable. Why will this club not publicly condemn chants about ââ?¬Ë?hunsââ?¬â?¢ and/or the IRA? 3. What will it take from the SPL to remove these terms/songs from their supporters as current official 'action' is inconsistent and is clearly not working? Having proven non-neutral and incompetent observers will not facilitate consistency in the reporting of rule breaches. 4. If a proscribed list of unacceptable terms/songs has not been created, how can one club be warned and others ignored? Surely individual terms/songs must have played a part in Dick's report? Ergo, why was he negligent in his duties when it involved Celtic? Perhaps such confusion explains why Mr Ritchie is confused about the origins and/or suitability of offensive Celtic songs? Compiling a list isn't easy but not doing so leaves loopholes and doesn't promote equality and parity. 'Football for All' is failing and without genuine action the whole issue is a charade costing the tax-payer hundreds of thousands of pounds (if not more). 5. The SPL and the authorities in general need to involve more fans in order to really find workable solutions to remove the kind of offensive singing we hear on a regular basis in Scotland. As we see above, there are many more questions than answers in this debate. The authorities are not answering these valid questions so need help from those directly affected by the legislation - not pen-pushers who sit in leather chairs while fans pay top dollar. To conclude, I think it's important to make clear that this issue is not about some sort of petty one-upmanship to find fault with one club or set of fans but is a serious debate to discuss how such obvious deficiencies and inconsistencies in the way the authorities are addressing the issue are quite simply not working. By all means have rules and legislation. But by not applying these rules fairly, objectively and accurately these rules only serve to create more problems. Certainly when (or if) the working group outlined at the start of this article meet again full-time won't be called on sectarianism - just on the incompetency of the bodies involved in the charade at personal cost to every one of us.

    Mad March:

MAD MARCH: Eight games in 28 days could hit Gers title bid RANGERS IN MARCH 1 Aberdeen (h) SPL 6 W Bremen (h) Uefa 9 Hibs (h) Scottish Cup 12 W Bremen (a) Uefa 16 CIS Cup Final 19 Partick (h; tbc or SPL) 22 Hibs (h) SPL 26 Scotland v Croatia 29 Celtic (h) SPL by Darrell King Rangers' dramatic win in Athens last night could seriously impact their dreams of winning back the SPL title this season. Nacho Novo's equaliser against Panathinaikos took Rangers through on away goals to a last 16 meeting with Werder Bremen. It also added to a hectic mad March of games for Walter Smith's side. Rangers face a punishing schedule of eight games in 28 days next month. advertisement And the Scotland players in the squad - such as Barry Ferguson, Lee McCulloch, Kris Boyd and Allan McGregor - could play NINE games, with the national side also having a game against Croatia. The 1-1 Athens draw last night also means that, with every midweek now filled, it is almost certain the Old Firm derby - originally scheduled for January 2 - won't take place before Celtic visit Ibrox on March 29. That would result in three Old Firm derbies being played in the last six weeks of the campaign - with the last two of them at Parkhead. The chances of a delay to the 33-game split in the SPL is also likely as Rangers also have rearranged fixtures with Motherwell and St Mirren. Rangers survived a few anxious moments in Athens last night. And Christian Dailly today relived the debut moment he feared would send Rangers crashing out of the Uefa Cup. The Scotland man was thrown on as a right back sub in last night's 1-1 draw with Panathinaikos in Athens, a result that sent Smith's side through to a last 16 showdown with Werder Bremen on the away goals rule. Bremen went through 4-0 after a 1-0 win at Braga, and will be at Ibrox on Thursday, March 6 with the return game six days later. But Dailly revealed how he feared German ref Felix Brych would point to the spot after his superb goal saving tackle on Dimitris Salpingidis as the Greeks pursued a killer second goal. The hitman had raced clear of Davie Weir before the 34-year-old made a last-gasp tackle, clearly taking the ball. But Dailly said: "What was going through my mind? You are always worried that the referee maybe doesn't see it properly and gives a penalty. "I did fear that might happen and that would have been a nightmare debut. "I saw their lad bursting away and my first reaction was just to get over and try to close him down. I kept my eye on the ball and when I slid in I thought to myself: That's a good contact'. "But you see the boy going down and the reaction of the crowd and sometimes refs give a penalty. That would have given them a chance for 2-0 and it would have been very tough for us then with 20 minutes to go. "So I was relieved, although the bottom line is that it was never a penalty. But things don't always go for you. "I was just happy to make that tackle, and it was maybe similar to the one big Carlos Cuellar made in the first half in terms of stopping a clear shot on goal." Porkhead twice in the last six weeks could be a nightmare. I would hate them to win the league against us at home. I hope we have a cushion to stop that. if we still have a lead they will hit us with everything. Including the kitchen sink. Nightmare scenario!!

  13. How the fuck do Celtic continue to win games at Parkheed? SS1 just showed you the Celtic line-up for tonights game, their defence and midfield is utter mince. GK Boruc RB Caddis LB Naylor CB McManus CB Caldwell RW Nakamura LW McGeady CM Hartley CM Robson CF McDonald CF Vinegar of Castlemilk That team is utter baws!
  14. http://www.gersnetonline.net/newsite/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=600&Itemid=1 Don't know if Gersnet members have seen them but as usually happens when Celtic are trailing in the league, the usual conspiracy theorists are out in force telling us how the officials and Mike McCurray in particular are biased in favour of Rangers. Allow me to post a few stats to dispute these claims. I'm sure each reader will make up their own mind whether or not a Baptist Pastor is capable of going against his faith and profession to cheat. In the emails/forums, the main bone of contention for paranoid Celtic fans is the fact McCurry booked 9 of their players in one match (which supposedly helped Rangers win 3-0 that day) and the fact there is an anomaly with regard to how many Rangers games he's officiated this season. Please don't laugh as I help these poor people with their arithmetic - using a suitable compairson in Dougie McDonald who has actually refereed more Celtic games than McCurry has Rangers so far this term (percentage wise). As it stands this season we have the following stats: McCurry 15 SPL games 5 (33%) involving Rangers (4 Rangers wins - 1 defeat) 4 (27%) involving Celtic (2 Celtic wins - 1 defeat - 1 draw) McDonald 13 SPL Games 5 (39%) involving Celtic (5 Celtic wins) 3 (23%) involving Rangers (2 Rangers wins - 1 defeat) Let's add in discipline for these refs: McCurry Rangers games: (8 Rangers players booked - 17 opposition players booked) Celtic games: (12 Celtic players booked - 6 opposition players booked) If you remove the old Firm game where 9 Celtic players were booked as they again lost their discipline in such a match (I can't remember any obvious officiating mistakes other than McDonald being lucky to stay on the park and a perfectly legitimate Rangers goal chalked off for offside), then you have very similar stats for both clubs. Certainly nothing worthy of genuine concern IMO. McDonald Rangers games: (6 Rangers players booked - 6 opposition players booked) Celtic games: (8 Celtic players booked - 6 oppositions players booked - 2 sent off) Again, very similar stats for both clubs. Certainly nothing worthy of genuine concern once more. Also just for argument's sake it is worth looking at McCurry's direct Old Firm discipline record in a bit more detail. Including the OF game you obtain the following data already posted above: Rangers games: (8 Rangers players booked - 17 opposition players booked) Celtic games: (12 Celtic players booked - 6 opposition players booked) Take the OF game out of the equation (an understandable statistical spike given the volatile nature of the match) you get this data: Rangers games: (6 Rangers players booked - 8 opposition players booked) Celtic games: (3 Celtic players booked - 4 opposition players booked) Now, that means despite only refereeing one more Rangers SPL game so far this season he has booked 2 times as many of our players compared to Celtic. Conclusions Now, I think we will all agree that some of the decision-making by the officials this season has been nothing short of scandalous, inconsistent and generally of a poor standard. However, for anyone (Celtic or Rangers fan) to suggest someone is cheating deliberately (especially McCurry who has presided over more Celtic wins than Rangers wins in Old Firm matches over the years (and booked more Rangers players in these games); is not only laughable but dangerous when one considers how the Celtic support have behaved towards officials in the recent past. What happened to the 'No Excuses' mantra - did that disappear with O'Neill and Sutton a few years back?
  15. This has happened to us for years yet Hearts stick up for there fans and demand explanations. Murray should take a look what Campbell Ogilvie is doing there and that is with a nutter as a chairman.
  16. C'mon the Hearts!!! Just away to watch this game, its a bit more appealing than Chelsea v Huudersfield or Liverpool v Barnsley. Would like a repeat of the league cup game!! If Hearts turn up then they will give the unwashed a game, so hopefully they do!!!
  17. ....and signs for Utrecht http://www.fc-utrecht.nl/teams/vrouwen_fc_utrecht/Denise_van--Luyn
  18. It seems ages since we last played Celtic back in October. We have only had 1 OF game in the last 10 months. Roll on the next one. Has there been a date set for the game that was cancelled at New Year? We've got them at Ibrox on March 29th which is still over 6 weeks away!!! Hopefully we are spoiled by them - 3 league games in a short space of time and hopefully we can stuff them in the Scottish cup also!
  19. Shocking that in a day in age where Pro footballers are playing on that one has to retire at 32 due to being fat and lazy. Watch this guy puff up now that he isnt playing. It will be like watching a cake in the oven - he will grow huge now. He was a bit of nightmare to play against when he was at Celtic but he has always been a fat boy. Bye bye :moon:
  20. I fancy: Man Utd v Man City - Home win Chelsea v Liverpool - Home win Aberdeen v Celtic - draw Might have a flutter on individual games.
  21. Someone want to confirm that this is utter gash!!! No way we should be paying that sort of money for him.
  22. Saturday, 9 February 2008 -------------------------------Time------TV Dundee United v Hibernian------12:30-----*** Hearts v Gretna----------------15:00 Motherwell v Kilmarnock--------15:00 Rangers v Falkirk---------------15:00 St Mirren v Inverness CT------- 15:00 Sunday, 10 February 2008 Aberdeen v Celtic--------------14:00 Dundee Utd have been showing good form of late with an excellent win 4-1 against Aberdeen in the CIS cup. They have have lost probably their best player with Robson going to the dark side and also have a good few injury doubts including Lee wilkie. Hibs may put new signing colin Nish in from the start but their biggest problem is the late fitness test of rob Jones. The Hibs defence will be much weakened if Jones is ruled out. I still fancy UTD for this one even without Robson. Dundee utd win. Hearts and Gretna have been much improved of late with both clubs picking up points. Hearts seem to be getting back on track now that mad Vlad has given Steve Frail the reigns in his hands. Gretna made many signings in the transfer window and will be hoping they gel in quickly.A bit of an unknown quantity this one through the form and new players of Gretna and the unpredictable Hearts season. Under normal circumstances Hearts should win. Hearts win. The big surprise at Fir park will be if the pitch is playable. If the game goes ahead then i would expect Motherwell to beat a Killie team who sold their best player without adding to their team. If Gretna keep up their good form Killie could be staring degradation in the eye in a few weeks. Motherwell win. Rangers get a visit from Falkirk who have lost their last two league games against Gretna and Celtic. Falkirk have given all teams a problem over the last few years and we will have to hit form to beat them. Whittaker is fit after an ankle knock and cousin can still play for us but the chances of that happening are slim as Rangers won't risk him getting injured.Fifa should have made a ruling on this day's ago. A ridiculous situation for a world organisation. If we want to win the league then these games must be cattle fodder for us. they never are! Rangers win. Inverness go to Love street to meet st Mirren. St Mirren lost to Rangers last time round but they were the better team until Rangers scored and they had a man sent off. The two games before saw them beating Motherwell and Hibs. Inverness had the Craig Brewster effect but that has been slowly diminishing. I will go for the Saints to keep up there good form and to win at home. St Mirren win. Sunday.... Aberdeen v celtic at Pittodrie is always a game we look to to see the tims dropping points. The fact is they rarely do. I don't see aberdeen posing a threat to them, but we live in hope. Celtic win.
  23. I think i started the same thread at the start of the season and the majority was pretty much that we expected to challenge for the league and at least go for a domestic cup. If we were in Europe after Christmas then that would be a bonus. So as things stand at the moment WS has ticked all expectations and possibly beyond that with a 4 point lead in the league and sitting in the league cup final and a favourable draw in the Scottish cup. Plus up next week is Panathinikos in the last 32 of the UEFA cup. What happens now if we a) go out of europe b) dont win the league? Will people jump on a bandwagon saying it was thrown away simply because of the good position we are in? My personal take on it is if the league goes to the wire then we have to look at it in the way that we have came on strides this season. However I believe we will go on and win the league. Domestic cup wise I think we will beat Dundee Utd in the League cup and get past Hibs in the Scottish Cup. Celtic have a tricky tie at Pittodrie and could get knocked out there. In Europe, I feel a Rangers team should be strong enough to get past Panathinikos. Id be very disappointed if we got knocked out due to negative play and poor tactics. If we went out despite giving all then I think we'd all accept that. However once again I think we will get through to the last 16, after that its either Werder Bremen or Braga with the Germans likely to be favourties there and thats a very tricky tie should we look tha far ahead. One thing that isnt going to help us is the fixture back log. The next few weeks is going to test the size of our squad and lets hope WS uses it to its full potential. Expectations for me are to lift the League Cup, get to the Scottish cup Final and take that game from there. I expect go all the way in the SPL and take the league flag home as I think we are good enough and better than Celtic as things currently stand. In Europe a last 8 finish would be a good run but who knows!!! Thoughts from others?
