It's an interesting point and one I think there's a good argument for it. All I would say is that not every kid who shows massive potential at 15 realises it, and many a kid who didn't look like they'd make it at 15 goes on to have a stellar career.

That's another thing about youth development, it's a bit of a lottery.

It has only happened with one other player, Gilmour, nonsense to suggest we should scrap the youth system, we have a lot of talent in the youth teams who may be good enough for our first team eventually.

Also this hasn't happened yet, most 1st contract offers are rejected.

Can you read? I said it was a rhetorical question.  Nonsense my arse. Yes it's only happened to Gilmour because he's the only one who has looked that bit special.  That's the point...as soon as anyone comes along that looks a real asset we will probably lose them.

  3. So If we are going to lose any player who looks the part  would we be better off not investing in a youth system and just acquire a squad as needs be?   A rhetorical question as it's not going to happen but it does make you wonder who we are going to bring through under those circumstances.

  4. According to the Rangers sub on Reddit we played Leicester behind closed doors today winning  3-0.  Goals from Tav, Stewart and Docherty.   I guess a few of the fringe players would've gotten a run out.

IMO taking everything into consideration (including finances), the necessary timescale being we win the title this season (at a stretch the following season) and we start to get several youths into the first team squad for 20/21.

If a young player is good enough he will break into the team.

I think Gilmour would have played more first team football had he stayed but the difference in money is so great that most will go for it.   It's a sad fact that if one of our youths looks exceptional there's a high chance we will lose them.

I've really missed these professional performances, where we don't play particularly well but are physical, tough, clinical and get the win.

I don't think we've had that since Walter.

We've had a few of those this season although I don't think today necessarily qualifies.  We've certainly played worse this term and won.

Alfredo represents the type of business we need to do on a relatively regular basis, if we are to match then better Celtic on the pitch.

They spend somewhere in the region of 9M on a forward who can do the business.

We spend 1M on our main forward but is every bit as good as their 9M man.

It's not so much the amount spent, it's about getting value.

Of course.  You could argue that Morelos would've a bargain had we paid £9 million for him.  At £1 million he was an excellent piece of business.

At a million pounds Alfie wasn't cheap but in saying that on current form and with some of the valuations flying around it still might be considered a bargain.

Might?  Might?  He's scored a shed load of goals, he's the best striker we've had in years and he's been touted as being valued at £20,000,000 (and rising) and you think he might be considered a bargain?
