It’s strange that something so sensible can also be utterly implausible.
-
What else can you do but get behind him? I think the mood right now is just about right anyway, a lot of excitement but not exactly the Paul Le Guen wave of giddy optimism. There’s a degree of caution as well which makes sense. Anyway, im not sure there’s any satisfaction to be had by predicting disaster and being proved right. So you might as well get caught up in the excitement.

Graeme Murty 'relieved of his duties' as Rangers manager
Unicorn replied to Frankie's topic in Rangers Chat
Sad to see some of the vitriol aimed at him on social media and forums. The guy was put in an impossible situation and like every one of his predecessors since 2012 is being vilified by some for failing to meet unrealistic expectations. I don’t know how many managers we need to burn through before people accept that what happened to us in 2012 has no quick fix. The amount of comments I’ve heard and read that essentially state that if we get the right manager in then everything will be alright. It’s nonsense. Celtic can outspend us 4/1 at least and that’s not changing any time soon. The next scapegoat for that is already lined up in Gerrard. -
Oh, you know people do you? Aye, no bother. How important and in the know you must be. Mccoist has done more for our club that you, me and every single person on this forum put together and deserves more than petty character assassination from people who can’t possibly know what went on behind closed doors.
-
Only if he and you refrain from accusing Rangers legends of all sorts of nefarious activity without evidence. Until then I’ll imply what I like too, thanks.
-
‘Yes he had serious issues getting players to sign, I will never duck that.’ Wow, how magnanimous of you. Serious issues eh? I thought it was a ‘golden opportunity ‘!? The bottom part and the entirety of your next reply is just pure supposition, your odious opinion couched in absolutes, so arrogant in your certainty. I have no idea how a mere fan knows so much about what went on behind the scenes or, indeed, about McCoist’s personal finances. It’s impressive though, if a pretty shameful way for an adult to act and an even more shameful way for someone to support the club they allegedly love.
-
Well you seem like an impartial judge of that.
-
You left a huge chunk of that particular article out.
-
I’m going by what McCoist said at the time. As to what his motivations were I have no idea and neither do you. As for the part about Green, I said nothing of the sort. I don’t know what went on behind the scenes.
-
He didn’t give him shares, that’s not how it works. Mccoist put his own money in as a fan first and foremost. I don’t know why people can’t be humble to say ‘I’m just a fan, I don’t know what goes on behind the scenes’ rather than inventing their own narratives. It can be extremely damaging to the club they claim to love.
-
So if I was take that narrative as gospel then what you’re saying is the club was such a mess that they entrusted highly complex contract negotiations to a manager who left school at 16 to chase his dream of becoming a professional footballer, all the while operating under a transfer embargo and trying to entice players to drop down to the fourth tier. That doesn’t sound very feasible, it certainly doesn’t sound like a ‘golden opportunity’. Even if what you’re claiming is true, then focusing the blame entirely on an inexperienced rookie manager who was trying his best to get a team on the field during the madness of administration, demotion, transferring player contracts under TUPE and everything else seems unreasonably harsh. Apthough I suppose hindsight is always accurate. You make it all sound so easy.
-
He was there to manage the first team. Kudos again though on your active imagination.
-
What an active imagination you have. Ally was first team manager, that’s it. Although if you read some of the utter ill informed nonsense on forums you’d think he was ceo, club secretary, chairman and, according to some of the more deranged, the devil.
-
It’s almost childlike naivety to think that managers authorise contracts on behalf of clubs. Most of them left school at 15 to chase their dream of becoming professional footballers with no qualifications, do you really think they’re negotiating complex contracts on behalf of big businesses like football clubs?! Actually, seeing as you think there was a ‘golden opportunity’ in 2012 when the club was on its knees then you probably do.
-
Can’t see Gerrard walking into this shit show without any assurances that he will have significant funds available. Unless he’s some sort of masochist.
-
Luckily for us Celtic have taken their foot off the gas a bit.
-
We’d have to get close to them to put in red card worthy challenges.
-
Even worse than the semi final, I didn’t think we could trump that but apparently I underestimated just how pathetic we could be.
-
Steven Gerrard ffs! At least it’s never boring being a Rangers fan.
-
‘In other words’. I.e. if you swapped some of the words he used for completely different words changing the meaning of what he said to suit your reading then, yes, he’s partly absolving himself from any blame.
-
Strangely, I’m slightly more confident than I was before the semi final. Although I still think we’ll probably lose...so not that strange. Surely the players know that another pathetic display like the one at Hampden simply won’t be tolerated?
-
I appreciate that there’s a lot of competition for this particular title but he must be the worst signing we’ve ever made, all things considered? The defense of him on other message boards was utterly bizarre.

Poll: Steven Gerrard as Rangers manager - Yea or Nay?
Unicorn replied to Frankie's topic in Rangers Chat
I think a lot of people are talking their way round to this. If it does happen then that’ll turn into a wave of optimism. What else can you do apart from try and focus on the positives and get behind him if it happens? Let’s face it, if and when the inevitable happens then there will be plenty of time for show gazing introspection. In the meantime...Stevie G’s here for 55!! -

Too much of a gamble.
