Absolutely, but wouldn't we prefer to have our manager move on because he's in demand, that he's been successful, that he deserves to move on to further his career? You cannot expect SG to turn down a job in a bigger league for 5x the salary, even when that may not be the best timing. Life dictates that you look after no1 - we'd all do the same in our careers, why should it be any different in football. Good luck to SG and the rest of the coaching staff. We should feel lucky he was with us on our journey back to the top and let's not forget what he did. The crap you read in the media about one trophy in nine is from haters. Simple. Gerrard and the team turned us from being a laughing stock, noobs in the Premier League with no direction or character. He transformed the club on and off the pitch, he put us back on the map in Europe, he figured out how to win consistently against Separate FC and won the title by the biggest margin, undefeated and crushed their tainted 10 dream. So we didn't win a cup, but Jesus H, we'd all have taken that. I'll only have good memories and I think in time all Gers fans will, but I respect the raw feelings right now. Let's hope Gio, or whoever is lucky enough to lead our great club is able to build on what SG and his team have done with the same passion, drive and success. On to 56!!!

Hard to argue with any of that. It’s obvious that Gerrard had been offered the job from Purslow before the permission had been given. However, it would be naive to think these things happen using official process. what irks me most is the level of compensation in the clause. That’s probably down to Allen. It’s clear that if Gerrard goes, he takes his entire back room team, so 4million quid is chicken feed compared to what they got for Rogers alone. We have been left in the shit and I don’t see us recruiting an employed coach of the required quality and his entire back room team this season. We’ll get a good coach, I hope, but time and patience is required to fill the roles and have them gel with each other. Time we don’t have. This is the most important season in our journey back, we must win the league this season and get that CL money.

I think in his heart he probably thought he’d taken us as far as he could. Sure, he could win the Premier League again, maybe a double, but he felt we had reached a ceiling in Europe and said as much himself. I think the Villa opportunity provides him the opportunity to go as high as he wants to go with the substantial investment promises that have no doubt been promised. I don’t think he was looking to jump ship, I think he was excited by the potential of CL football albeit aware of our limitations. I wish him the best, only the bitterest of fans wouldn’t. He’s delivered what we desperately needed domestically and in Europe and did it with style and class. He does have a career and a family to think about and so why begrudge him this big chance. He owes us nothing. We would all do the same - if offered a job closer to home with great career prospects and x5 the salary. We move on to our own next chapter and who knows what the future brings but we start in a better place thanks to Stevie G.

I don't think it'll be anyone on the poll list. I'd vote for Beale and contrary to other opinions on here, I do think he has leadership qualities and he has been the brains behind our success. However, he, along with SG's coaching team are off with him, that's inevitable. Possibly a caretaker boss such as McCann or McInnes that may have a chance to keep the job if they win 56. Other than that I don't know where to even start looking, but it won't be a big name and I'd expect a cheap option given the current finances.
