Hastie is officially away back to Motherwell on loan. Strange signing and interesting to see how he gets on back there because their fans gave him pelters when he signed for us

I really hope the club and the fans actually give him a chance. On paper it is an ideal move but loan moves often don’t work out because the club and fans default to their own players whenever they hit a roadbump.

I like Hastie, he definitely has an ability to score goals that is rare. Being good enough for Rangers is another question unfortunately. Middleton is similar.

McCorie is 22 its about time hes was given an extended run in the first eleven to see if he's up to it if not let the young man find another club who will give him a career.

I'm pretty sure he is being primed to replace McGregor next season. In the meantime it makes sense for him to play every week in the league elsewhere. McGregor was about the same age when he broke into the team, around 23 I think.

I suspect that McCrorie will go back out on loan, possibly to Livvy again, particularly as he would be getting game time - no point in having the lad sit on the bench at Rangers if he is seen as the long term back-up to McGregor

Yeh I guess so. Allowing him to go to Livi on loan could help smooth things over if there is anything in the Dykes link too.

I don't think Firth is really supposed to play for the first team: he's mainly used as a reserve and youth 'keeper, I think? (He played only when we were down to bare bones with injuries, and a sending off, if I remember correctly?)

We then have McGregor as Number One, and we'd want McCrorie to go out on loan again to a Premiership side. So, McLaughlan looks to be the back-up and a fairly decent one, considering he's around the Scotland Squad.

Firth is there to make up the numbers in the training pretty much. He is not intended to ever play in a competitive match, at least not when the game is in the balance.

the goals comparison is too simplistic though - teams line up against us in a much, much more defensive fashion than they do Livingston.  Morelos is considered out main threat and double teamed constantly - Dykes might be Livvy's main threat too but teams would have a go at Livingston far more frequently than they do us.  Would Dykes have more space in the final third playing for Rangers or Livvy - I think we all know the answer to that.

That doesn't mean I don't think he would be a good signing - just offering balance to the goals comparison.

That is more than outweighed by the fact that a Rangers striker gets far more good more chances to score from than a Livingston striker.

Dykes has started following all our players and staff on social media.

Also noticed Alfredo on social media - he doesn't mention us in the bio and wearing his national shirt in the display pics has that always been the case?

Interesting. I've always said I think Dykes looks very good. It is rare for a player with his physique to have the technical ability like he does.

Livingstone will be under serious financial pressure, if this is true we may have swooped in at just the right time and picked him up for less than we otherwise would have.

Lyndon Dykes is very different to Morelos. Morelos is a physical presence too, but all about his goals really. He is a good goalscorer but I have always said his link up play is poor, he doesn't create goals for others. Lyndon Dykes' goalscoring record is far from prolific, but his assist record is excellent. He is better on the ball than Morelos, very good at dribbling and passing, and this shows in his assists numbers. Dykes has 5 assists in the league to Morelos's 1 (BBC stats), despite playing for Livingston who scored far less than us. At QoS, he got at least 10 league assists in his last 2 seasons (at a young age). Dobbie's goals dried up without Dykes.

So alongside goalscoring attacking midfielders I think Dykes could be excellent. A modern target man, able to hold up the ball well and set up the attacking midfielders. Unfortunately we don't have the players for this yet. We are set up for a goalscoring striker. Kent will never be a goalscorer and Aribo isn't really either. Hagi, Murphy and Stewart are goalscoring attacking midfielders but only Hagi can really expect to start. So if this one pans out, it will be interesting to see if we do add a different kind of attacking midfielder.

Snatched from FF who snatched it from RM

As Stevie_4lads told us, the ITKs have been told to keep information close to themselves, so we have to expect more Bassey moments while the media looks foolish. Though that`s only a side-effect, for it is more important to get our deals done so others don`t sniff about.

That is exciting news. I haven't watched McLean closely but i struggled to get excited about him. He was too good for Aberdeen but never jumped out to me. A quality centre midfielder could make a big difference for us. I don't think we can rely on Davis and Kamara.

Looks like Liam Burt has been released by the Scum ... that went well ... and long may it continue ...

Signing Burt was just another childish stunt to add to that lot's list. It was clear as day he wasn't good enough. He had made no impact at Dumbarton and Alloa. Getting him to wax lyrical about joining them having been at Rangers for years was all it was about.

  9. Tavernier turns 29 in a few months, and has 2 years left on his deal. We have invested heavily in scouting so in my opinion we should try and get a good transfer fee in for him now before his value dives in the next couple of years and he leaves for nothing. I am a fan of his, but it makes good sense for the club and we have to trust our scouts to come up with a replacement.

You might be advised to stop looking for the next Barry Ferguson.  I'm pretty sure that European football has some rules that make it desirable to fill the squad with academy graduates.

Sadly true. Barry Ferguson was a once in a generation player in my opinion, and if he was coming through just now he probably wouldn't play a senior game at Rangers.

I do think the OP raises a good point though, we are struggling to get a player all the way to the first team. I still have high hopes for some of the players though. This will be a big season for Patterson.

  11. Pleased with the Bassey signing. Don't get me wrong, I knew nothing about him before this but that just tells me that our scouts are doing their job. Gone are the days of Sportscene scouting at Rangers and thank goodness for that. He fits the profile; 20 years old, low fee and wages and lots of promise.

I've watched a Wyscout video of him and he certainly looks promising. Strong as an ox and he has some engine on him, very fast and better than I expected technically. He could play as a left winger quite easily if need be. And a real left winger who gets to the byline at that. Hopefully more signings like this to come.
