As opposed to Morelos, he's  a target man who can and will lay long balls off to attacking midfielders (if any), and he will shoot from distance. Anyone knows when we scored the last goal from around the penalty area? (I don't count Candeias cross-come-shot ? ) Likewise, he will be a different aerial threat.

I think Morelos is overrated and Lafferty underrated on here. Lafferty is much better at link up play, holding it up and keeping possession. I’m keen to see how he takes his chance.

Clarke is getting a tune out of Stewart but that doesn't necessarily mean the player has the mentality to play for a big club and if you look over his career, I'd wager that he wouldn't be a success at Ibrox.

At the sametime, I reckon Jones may just have enough of a gallus streak that may allow him to perform at a higher level.

If the price/contract situation was right I'd be tempted to recruit Jones for next season (Kent due to go back to Liverpool).

I wasn’t recommending Stewart I said he wasn’t good enough either despite being far more effective than Jones

Comes from ID 10 on Follow Follow who I believe is also well known on the Gersnet and another well known Rangers website. Jones is Jordon Jones of Kilmarnock.

When is the Jones link going to go away ??‍♂️ Kilmarnock are top because of Stewart, and he’s not good enough either. Kamara I haven’t seen enough of honestly but it’s a crowded position in our team and he doesn’t seem obviously better than what we have. Hope we’ll see more names coming up.

  4. I think Ejaria is being scapegoated a bit. For me it’s a tactical error to go with three flat centre mids in a home game. It’s not his fault he hasn’t been played higher up the park. He did very little wrong other than not doing anything special like the rest. Call it a 4-3-3 all you want but it was a 4-5-1 and it was never going to break down Aberdeen. Contrary to what some have said the chances actually did come when we had more attacking players on but we didn’t take them and we didn’t create enough of them.

Like Ejaria it is clear that he has skill.

Also like Ejaria we need to ask how much of it leads to a goal?

Actually Grezda was one of the only ones who did create chances. His cross led to the Jack chance and there were others too.

What fecking does my tits in is our inability to get to the by line or behind opposition defences. Considering we play wide men and have overlapping full backs, we never see them hitting the by line and getting balls across the goal area. It's the hardest ball to defend and it's no great surprise that about 90% of Man City's goals come from these situations. They rarely shoot or play low percentage passes. They engineer a way for a player to hit the line and play a pass back/across for someone to tap in.

Yep. I’ve been saying exactly that for ages about us. Even Hibs manage to get to the byline pretty often.

My patience with Morelos is diminishing by every yellow/red card.

I would excuse the lack of discipline if he improved his link up play. The amount of heavy touches, wayward passes and general givig the ball away wasn’t good enough tonight.

Ejaria adds to this team except slowing the game down.

I like him so I was very disappointed tonight. Have to ask of Gerrard though why isn’t he playing further forward!? He adds nothing further back the pitch, leave that to Jack. Where Ejaria has ability is picking a pass in the final third (remember Rapid). He does have real ability but it’s not being used at all in a centre midfield postion. It was very obvious we need more attacking players on the pitch quite early in the first half.

Tbh we showed very little real quality against Hearts as well. We showed great fighting spirit but I'm still struggling to see what we actually do as a team that is creative or part of a plan

The style tonight was nothing like that used against Hearts. At Hearts we didn’t pass the ball at all, tonight if anything we weren’t direct enough and wasted too much time passing the ball at a slow pace. I think playing on the deck more at home is good but the  concern is that the players seemed to be improvising rather than than looking well drilled in methods of breaking through defences.

  10. My word, just can’t believe we just let that happen. An awful football team and we’ve allowed them yet another smash and grab. Lots of poor performances out there tonight, Morelos chief among them. Grezda was brilliant when he came on and showed he should be a stick on starter. Lafferty was much better than Morelos when he came on but there just wasn’t enough dynamism in our attack, too often the pass was coming in to feet with a man on our back, not enough sideways runs, one-twos and balls to run on to. A reality check has been coming but what a way for it to come.

  11. Lethargic performance. Aberdeen got their usual set piece goal and now they’re sitting in and we’re passing from side to side and not taking risks. We need an attacking substitution at half time, Coulibaly off I would say for Lafferty or Grezda. Morelos having a poor game giving the ball away a lot and picked up a silly yellow before half time.

I was really impressed with his performance against Villarreal. He performed better than Goldson on every defensive metric. That was only one game but I think he's shown he deserves to feature regularly with in a rotated centre back pairing. It's a shame we probably won't be able ot keep him. Fingers crossed Karanka is still there at the end of the season and we might have a chance.

No I listened to it, lol! My point was we seemed to be struggling defensively until we were forced to tighten up as a result of going down to 10. We don't seem to have quite enough creatively yet to go toe-to-toe with the like of Villarreal.

To be honest we struggled defensively throughout, we survived due to a combination of McGregor and their wastefulness. In terms of our creativity, we actually had plenty of good opportunities to score because their defence was very poor too. Their most effective tactic was to fall over when anyone came near them because they were guaranteed a free kick every time, killed a lot of our attacks.

  14. I’m a huge fan but last night wasn’t his best night, he struggled to settle and it just wasn’t happening for him. But even with that being the case his corners were clear goal scoring opportunities because they were so good and he definitely created two or three other opportunities.

Just a shame you jumped to the same conclusion as the ref initially.....

It’s hardly “jumping to a conclusion”, I had seen a replay and it did look like Candeias had gone after him and deliberately landed on him. It was only after another few replays that I changed my mind because he didn’t make as much contact on him as it initially looked he did. I don’t think it was as crazy a decision as everyone is suggesting when it’s made in the heat of the moment and you don’t have the benefit of a replay.
