Well we often complain about the hammer throwers in Scotland but I’ll take hammer throwers every day of the week over the sissies on the continent who’ve turned the game into a non-contact sport. It never ceases to amaze me.

Interesting that Davis and Ojo come in for Kamara and Jones. Possibly an indication that we expect them to sit in more than Midtjylland. In any case it makes little difference to the strength of the side.

I fear from the grumbles I've heard he could be quickly promoted as an easy whipping boy for some fans
Some players are untouchable to our fans and others are one mistake away from not being good enough. Fans aren't the most objective with this kind of thing.

Yeh I think it’s basically a question of whether there will be any changes to the Midtjylland away team. I’m leaning to no too.

If he comes fair enough but I would prefer a tip class left back tbh.
The only signing that would significantly improve my confidence for this league campaign is a quality left back. If it happens I imagine it will be a loan though.

Excellent article by Jordan Campbell. I’d recommend taking the free trial so you can read some of his stuff. He previews Legia here, in short they play a 4-4-2 and like to press very high but we should be able to find plenty space through the middle if we play our game. Tbh I think Legia will play into our hands if they do this.

He didn't win the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year for nothing.
There was hardly much competition. Ferguson, Hastie and Turnbull. The Motherwell pair only really performed in the second half of the season.

I can't believe we're still banging on about Kent.
He might come, he might not.
We have a huge match tomorrow night. How many goals or assists did Kent provide on our EL run last season? Not many!
0 goals and 1 “assist” in 9 games. I put the assist in inverted commas because it was just a saved shot which Morelos converted on the rebound, not a real assist in my book.

Liverpool don't take loan fees so only cost is his salary.
That's not true they do
43 minutes ago, craig said:Probably just me but I think we will be fine at LB. Barisic is still a quality player
Gerrard has spoken in the past few weeks really, Barisic hasn't played since Kilarnock. He didn't make the bench at Hibs and he only made the bench at East Fife. Looks like Gerrard is going with Flanagan and Halliday and they are pretty average really. If we had a leader in that position it would make a huge difference. Any move for Kent take money out of the pot for a left back.

I think if we qualify for the Europa League we may well get Kent and another striker. If we don't, I don't see Kent happening.
The most efficient use of any funds we may have left or come into is a new left back. We are far weaker there than attacking midfield.

Is there any word about the Grezda situation?
Our wage bill must be fairly racking up.
Yeh, we can’t bring Kent in with the current squad we have, our wage bill is huge. And they would want another £500k-£1m loan fee too.

Poor show King/Barker have not been with club long enough to be conversant with playing style and other players.
7 hours ago, Gonzo79 said:Helender isn't fully match fit and Docherty wasn't great in Methil, so I'm not terribly surprised.
I’m surprised. I think it’s confirmed the suspicion that King hasn’t come in to be number 6 in centre mid but number 5 and challenging for 4 with the real chance of being rotated in quite often. That signing made no sense to me if he was behind Docherty but I think it confirms the gaffer doesn’t trust Docherty unfortunately.
Dropping Helander is bizarre. It’s easy to pick up suspensions in Europe we’re now going in with three recognised centre backs. Even Barisic kept his place as 3rd choice left back. The only positive spin I can see is that he’s been told that by not being in the squad he can focus on his fitness for now and challenge for inclusion in the domestic squads.
Barker is another surprise but I wonder if he’s jumping the queue in that position too. Stewart doesn’t seem to be catching the manager’s eye which I’ve been a bit disappointed by.

I think we’re definitely favourites for this one but they won’t be as easy to break down so present us with a very different challenge to an attacking (and lightweight) side like Midtjylland.

Legia Warsaw’s chances against Rangers dismissed by former Celtic hero

Jackie Dziekanowski doesn’t rate his former side and has told Rangers they are favourites to reach the Europa League group stage.
Legia Warsaw fans unveiled a banner claiming their families will be crying as they leave them behind to head to Glasgow for their Europa League playoff return leg against Rangers.
And Jackie Dziekanowski reckons it could all end in tears for the Polish side.
The former Celtic striker - who had two spells at Legia - believes his former club are paying the price for a trigger-happy board going through too many managers.
Legia reached the Champions League group stage three years ago and finished third before losing to Ajax after dropping into the Europa League.
It was the first time in 20 years they had reached the groups in Europe’s premier competition but boss Jacek Magiera was still sacked the following season.
Two years earlier they crushed Celtic 6-1 on aggregate in a Champions League qualifier only to be disqualified for fielding an ineligible player. But Legia have struggled in recent seasons, losing to F91 Dudelange of Luxembourg last year, and Dziekanowski admits they have been far from convincing in this campaign.
Aleksandar Vukovic’s side won 1-0 against Zaglebie on Sunday, with fans displaying a banner which read: “Crying wives, crying children, each one of us is flying to Glasgow.”
Dziekanowski works as a TV pundit and keeps a close eye on Legia but has also been keeping tabs on Rangers.
Ahead of Thursday’s first leg in Warsaw, the 56-year-old said: “Rangers are favourites because they have made big progress. Their ambition is to catch Celtic and become champions.
“They appointed Steven Gerrard who is a very ambitious coach with a bright future and they have quality players.
“They have made a fantastic start to the league campaign with eight goals in two games but Legia are struggling for form. If they don’t drastically improve then Rangers will definitely win.
“Last season they lost to Dudelange which was very disappointing. For most of the players it will be a big test because they haven’t faced a team like Rangers before and are inexperienced at this level.”
Aleksandar Vukovic is the man in Legia’s dugout now but Dziekanowski insists the jury remains out on him.
And he hasn’t been impressed by their Europa League victories over Europa, KPS Kuopio and Atromitos.
He said: “Legia didn’t play well against poor teams from Gibraltar, Finland and Greece so Rangers will be a big test.
“Legia are under pressure to get into the group stage because they need money for transfers.
“But they are trying to find their form under Vukovic who was assistant coach and caretaker before his permanent appointment.
“The supporters are waiting for a good performance and believe it will come against Rangers.
“The player who most impresses me is Carlitos who was top scorer two years ago but he has been on the bench. Why has he been on the bench? Most of the fans are asking the same question.
“He is a creative player but the manager leaves him on the bench. Maybe he is saving him for Glasgow Rangers!
“Legia also have a good young goalkeeper Radoslaw Majecki who is only 19 years old and there are experienced players in defence.
“The manager said after the Zaglebie Lubin match they won a game they were favourites to win but Thursday is a different situation because Rangers are favourites.
“Legia Warsaw played against Celtic five years ago and we were disappointed with the scandal after the administrative error that saw a suspended player feature.
“There is no doubt this current team is much weaker than the team who faced Celtic. They are inexperienced, they don’t play with style and don’t look good.
“Legia Warsaw were in the Champions League group stage two years ago and played against Real Madrid, Sporting Lisbon and Borussia Dortmund and finished third.
“It was a good team and they played attractive football but in recent years the board have made a lot of wrong decisions in terms of appointing managers.
“The manager during the Champions League run was Jacek Magiera but he was sacked early the following season and there have been five managers since.
“Every manager has their own vision and it’s a problem because the club must have the vision and employ the right man to see it through.”
Dziekanowski, capped 62 times for his country, joined Celtic for £600,000 in 1989 and has fond memories of his first clash with Rangers a few months later.
He smiled: “I remember my first game against Rangers at Celtic Park and Terry Butcher scored but I scored the equaliser, although it was a very lucky goal!”
The former striker also recalled a time when he helped Legia take on giants of European football with two epic clashes in against Inter Milan in the 1980s.
He said: “We lost to Inter Milan in successive seasons in the UEFA Cup when they had big stars like Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Giuseppe Bergomi.
“In 1985 we drew 0-0 in Milan and lost to a goal in extra time by Pietro Fanna in Warsaw. The following season we won 3-2 win Warsaw and lost 1-0 in Italy - and Pietro Fanna scored the goal Our performances were so good but we were a bit unlucky.”

Had a look at coefficient points today and if we get the same as last season it could lift us from about 200th to 100th-120th. When you see how much easier it makes your draw it really emphasises how important it is. We got lucky with the draw this season again by dodging some really top teams but if we do as well as we can in Europe this season we will be well on the way to being seeded and won’t need as much luck in the not too distant future.

Of course, with but two recognized main strikers, we are an injury and a suspension away from playing someone out of position, even though Stewart is also said to be a striker first and foremost.
Brophy would be an expensive 3rd choice striker though, but most importantly I just don’t think he’d be remotely interested in joining when he has such a small chance of game time so I don’t think it’s true

No chance is a Celtic fan going to join us to sit on the bench (or not make it) all season. He knows he would be 3rd choice after Defoe and Morelos.

I don’t think that’s what Coop said at all but, really, what young player would want anything to do with the SFA mess when an alternative was available. The Scotland football team isn’t Scotland.
He has said it explicitly, and you are now suggesting he should choose ROI too. I just don’t get why any Rangers fan would want one of their best young players to represent them via a loose connection. Indifference to the national team is understandable but I don’t understand indifference to this decision, never mind leaning towards the boy choosing Ireland.

Got to love Scottish journalism, the prices have “shot up” from £49 to........(drumroll).......£53

Who for example? I haven’t seen anyone asking for that.
Scroll up, cooponthewing did. ian1964 didn't quite say that but said at least he won't get booed and might play in a major competition and most other comments are indifferent. I don't get the indifference, I don't want any Scottish Rangers players picking Ireland.

I find it bizarre that some of our support want one of our best young Scottish prospects to play for the Republic of Ireland ?

There would be big questions marks over our summer signing policy if we hadn’t utilised our squad for this game. 10 changes and 3-0 is a fantastic result and in such unusual conditions I don’t think it’s fair to criticise any player.

The difference in his demeanour and his reaction to being fouled is huge
It’s so noticeable. The “plays on the edge” excuse has finally stopped, he hasn’t changed how he plays he just don’t react like a child when he’s fouled.

Too late for that the ref has given the foul every time. It’s depressing but the definition of a foul in the game has changed. For once I’m glad that Scotland is behind the curve.
