Any player should be looking at such as a great opportunity.

    1.  Morelos won't be here forever

    2.  Defoe will be out for at least a month and a younger player should be looking to displace him as second choice anyway.

But my point is that we will be signing a replacement for Morelos when the money is in the bank. Anyone who comes in now will be challenging Defoe next season. We wouldn't risk signing a future replacement for Morelos with our current budget. FWIW, I think Dykes would be worth a punt if Livi were reasonable to negotiate with. I haven't seen loads of him and I could be wrong but he seems to me to be an all rounder with lots of potential. However if that Sherbrook guy's comment is true we won't be going for Dykes because he was mentioned in that thread.

I think it would be loan if we are looking at a striker. God knows who that would be?

I think it would be a loan. Defoe has signed for next summer and imo will remain as our number 2. We won't sign Morelos's replacement until the money is in the bank and what kind of a player could we realistically sign to come and compete with a Morelos replacement and Defoe next season?

Just wondering...had prior commitment so didn't see any of the game. How did Kent do? I see he got subbed on 68 mins. Was he injured?

I only saw the Rangers TV highlights but sometimes you have a bit of an advantage when you see highlights because you see the players who created the real chances. Kent barely featured at all, he had one run at the defence when he got in a good position but hit it wide. All our chances went through Ojo, Arfield and Defoe if I remember correctly.

Delighted that Polster has finally had a chance to show what he can do, I’ve said for a while I think he a very good player and an excellent back up for two positions.

A major concern for me is this is very similar to last season.  Beat the scum at the New Year, have the Winter break and then come back lacking guile, passion and anything resembling a title winning team.

    Why has it happened again?

I don’t think we have to look past Morelos and Tavernier being missing and Jack having an injury for the 45 he did play. I think too much is being made of the performances in the 3 games we’ve played.

I'd draft in George Edmundson to a defensive midfield role and add Davis Aribo and Docherty or Halliday. Edmundson has impressed me every time he's played. Either way it will be a brave manager who starts kamara or Flanagan tomorrow night.

    Greegs

    Polster

    Goldson

    Katic

    Barisic

    Docherty

    Edmundson

    Davis

    Aribo

    Kent

    Morelos

It will be a straight swap with Arfield and Kamara will definitely retain his place alongside Davis. Edmundson would have been more suited to Tynecastle than Ross County at Ibrox.

I don't disagree with that but to be fair to Katic, he's done very well since coming back into the team and will only get better with experience.

A word for Goldson as well, who, IMO has been one of our best players over the last couple of months.

Agree with that. I’m all for praise of Katic as long as it’s not accompanied with comments about Helander who has been an excellent signing.

I'm firmly in the 'Helander is better than Katic' camp.

Katic is better in the air and is a goal-threat at set-pieces; Helander is better with his feet and better at reading the game - and it's not just booting it out: When Helander reads the game, we tend to keep possession, and start attacks; Katic just boots it out. I prefer the latter.

I do love the guy [Katic]; there's a lot to admire in his passion and aggressive style. If he could combine that with better positional sense, and be able to play a pass, then he'd be some player.

To be fair, he can still learn that.

Manager is on our side on this one. Helander very often doesn’t get his due because of the cult hero status of Katic.

  8. Reports from the DR that Barker & Jones are headed for the exit in order to allow Gerrard to bring 1 in. They claim Barker is on 10k a week, criminal if true but I very much doubt that.

If we could bring in one quality attacking midfielder I would be in favour. Kent aside we went for quantity over quality in that position in the summer, not that it has done us much harm.

I too would prefer Katic to Helander. But if the manager continues going with Helander when he's fit then I have to accept that he knows more about football than I ever will and that there must be a very good reason for it.

This is a football forum, people are supposed to believe they are right and anyone who disagrees (including the manager) is an idiot. Unless I’ve been doing it wrong.

I suspect we'd recoup most of our fee for him still, Leeds were willing to pay it in the summer

Sorry to pick at this but they actually weren’t, Leeds walked away because Liverpool wouldn’t lower the price. I said at the time that I would be very surprised if a Championship club paid that kind of money for him. Presumably Club Brugge were though because Kent said he was just about to sign for them.

  11. I was quite vocal last season as not being Kent's biggest fan and I do think we overpaid in order to get a player who could hit the ground running, but he has done well this season and I think we should just forget about the fee.

I think the last three games have highlighted the drop in quality should we be missing some of our first picks

That's exactly right. IMO our strongest 11 is McGregor, Tavernier, Goldson, Helander, Barisic, Jack, Kamara, Davis, Kent, Aribo, Morelos.

We've been missing big players every time we've dropped points this season.

    1. Barisic, Kent and Helander didn't play vs Celtic at Ibrox.

    2. Barisic was a big miss in the draw at Pittodrie and Kamara didn't play in that one either.

    3. Jack, Kent and Helander didn't play at Tynecastle in September

    4. Of course yesterday was the worst by a distance with Morelos, Tavernier, Jack (45 mins) and Helander missing.

I don't think we need to panic because Morelos is back and Tavernier won't be long. Helander will return in another few weeks and when fully fit will, IMO, be preferred to Katic again.

However, lack of quality on the bench is still concerning. I've said for a while now that my biggest worry this season is injuries and suspensions because I think our strongest 11 could definitely do it. If we get 1 player in I think it should be in the inside forward position because an injury to Kent or Aribo could be very damaging.

Well, this also pisses me off to be honest.

I sometimes have to leave 10 mins or so before the end... do i want to? Of course i bloody dont.

The late evening games if i dont leave that 10 mins early it makes the differencr of about 1.5hours onto an already 4 hour journey home. So instead of getting home at say 2am i dont get home till way after 3am if i had stayed till final whistle.

I pay the same price for my ticket as the locals who can stay and not worry about getting home at 3am, but hey, you keep mocking fellow fans for doing such things.

It isn’t aimed at people like you.

  14. Hard to come up with a more negative title than the BBCs; Rusty Rangers edge past St Mirren to stay in touch.

And then the forst paragraph is the same, “Rusty Rangers stay two points behind Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership after struggling to victory over resolute visitors St Mirren.” Stay 2 points behind? What else were we going to do? We won our game.
