Have to say I enjoy Sakala scoring so many when he gets so much stick. A strange player, but he creates chances that most of our forwards don’t.

I think it's all pace.
Not a bad thing, but we need to use it properly.
Turn him into an Adama Traore.
Strangely, I think he’s the best we have at beating a man in a one on one, because his explosive acceleration. Unfortunately there is too much lacking in his game.

King has not impressed at all. Needs a loan somewhere like St Mirren to prove that he is even capable of playing well at that level at his age.

Replacing Kent and Morelos is a huge test for the recruitment team. More Matondo or Sakala type signings will hand them 3 in a row. Quality is needed.

But we also chose not to - lad from Swansea springsnto mind. We offered them a fee, they rejected it, we moved on.
Kent and Alfie will have something lined up, they are very good players who'll have options and offers.
The points stands, it’s a time when players are available at a cut price and we often see good players sold at that time. There was no word of interest last summer or January.
We’ll see how good the offers are, and how well they do. I wish them the best but I don’t expect much from either.

Our shocking defensive record when Goldson isn’t playing continues. We need money spent on that position.

Embarrassing and predictable.

We don’t do clean sheets when Goldson isn’t playing

Alternatively why would clubs offer any significant money for a player in their last year of their contract? Hang on 6 months and you can talk to the player and get a deal set up ready for the summer.
Maybe we received inquires about Alfie and Kent last summer but the board deemed the offers as not worth taking?
Have a look at over the city. Several examples. It’s a good time to buy at cut price. We do it too.

That clearly isnt the case though - the French mob admitted they had made a bid for Morelos. Had we accepted he would have gone. Wasnt them that pulled the plug on it, it was us.
I think it’s telling how long it has been since there has been serious interest in them though. August 2020 were the last good bids for Morelos and Kent, and the only ones that we know of I think. No bids as they entered their final 12 months is very telling. I'm sure we wouldn't haven't been that hard to deal with.

So you would have preferred to have sold him and not reach the EL final?
That’s a false dilemma. We’ll never know what would have happened if we’d sold him when we had a chance. I think we’d have replaced him with a better player.

He contributed towards 55 and getting to the Europa League final
Those things are used too much to excuse failures over the past years though. Celtic have been comfortably the best team in Scotland since 55. That's a huge failure, regardless of the EL run.

Puts that 1 million for Morelos into perspective imo.
£1m was obviously a huge bargain. But people forget that he’s been paid well over that a year in recent years. Remember how many pay rises he got over the years. What was frustrating was that the club didn’t seem to see the downward trend with Morelos since 2019, or that his form was unusually good in 2019 and that it was a great time to sell (like Bassey). I think he’s a player who peaked early in his career.

What a wonderful day. Never thought some of those players would leave. It should have been a long time ago and hanging onto them cost us in more ways than one. Big opportunity for Beale to put those freed up wages to better use now!

We’ve played 15 games without Goldson this season and only had 2 clean sheets in those games. One against Championship side. And our league record is 5W 2D 3L. Which is shocking, dropped points more often than not. Hopefully tomorrow is different. Looking at that record, it’s hard to say that anything has cost us more than poor recruitment at centre half last summer.

Hopefully the wages are much reduced so that it’s a better deal for us. I’d prefer if we’d moved on and given the place in the squad to someone who will be available for more of the season.

Indeed. The 'man in the street' never got a team relegated.
What percentage of Rangers signings are even a success? Less than 50% anyway.

We have blokes with coaching degrees and sports science certificates looking at potential signings, so it's always good to get the opinions of the man on the street too.
Is this a “trust the experts" comment? What's the point in a forum if we can't discuss potential signings?

I think people are assuming he’s strong because he’s [snip] tbh. His stats show he is actually pretty weak, very low success for duels when he has the ball and low across the board for defensive stats. I’m not overly convinced on this one, but his goals and assists stats are good and for little to no fee it does seem shrewd.

He scores and assists a lot for those in his position (in that league) - these stats cover the last 365 days, so will go into the previous season.
He doesn't attempt many passes, but when he does, they tend to be longer and riskier.
He's quite good at carrying the ball.
Not good at blocking nor interceptions.
Strange central midfielder...
Where are these stats from? Is it comparing with MLS centre mids only? And what’s the sample pool? I find the stats hard to believe. From a very brief look at YouTube, he doesn’t look that good to me. Something not right about his technique. The guy from Aston Villa/QPR looked better.

That was a very good listen. On the face of it, it looks like he brings fresh ideas, initiative and enthusiasm to the role.

So much said about the players they had missing. They had 5 who played in the SF who didn’t start. We had 6. Yilmaz, Souttar and Matondo have barely kicked a ball all season. Our squad has been ravaged by injuries all season, Tom Lawrence another example. Colak looked like he could fire us to the title until injuries ruined his season. Tillman has been one of our best players this season and was injured yesterday. But Tom English has to mention the big caveat of the missing players 2 or 3 times in his article.

I genuinely believe that Souttar was supposed to be a Goldson replacement
I hope not. Purely because that would be an absolutely insane decision. Swapping the man who never misses a game with John Souttar.

I still think we should sign Tillman. He’s scored as many from midfield, at the age of 20 and in his first ever season of senior football, as Morelos this season. With better players around him he’d be the first Rangers midfielder to score 20 a season at this level since Barry and de Boer.

Playing in Kent’s position there. When was the last time Kent did that?
