Has Barry shown enough to be considered new manager?
DMAA replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
People wanted to give Clement the season after beating Celtic. It’s all about it consistency in this job. But very good tactics were behind the Fenerbahce and Celtic wins and very few thought they were capable of that. Winning at Celtic Park with an exhausted squad is all down to tactics. Even if he plays a blinder the rest of the season, it would be a big risk to go with him. I’m not generally opposed to a figurehead like him as manager if you have tactical people around you (like Gerrard), but are they really that calibre? If the takeover goes through, you’d hope we can attract a higher calibre management team, but that often goes wrong too. BF will hopefully remain involved. -
Just love Raskin. What a player. Showing how much his injuries impacted us the past couple of years.

Raskin for me because I think he was central to anything good we did again. Had a massive impact in there and imo we’d struggle big time in centre mid without him. That's not to say Souttar doesn't deserve it too. Butland redeemed himself with good stops throughout the game before even getting to the penalty saves.

Play acting is absolutely ruining European football. Every single game in Europe. And give me a Scottish referee over a European one any day. European refs want football to be non-contact. -

Funnily enough, Dessers was a Europe specialist at Feyenoord too. He's been better than Igamane lately though. Whatever anyone says about Dessers, he comes across as a model pro. -

Absolutely incredible. Unbelievable. This is a bang in form Fenerbahce too. -

That's the first time I've disagreed with a VAR offside call. Looked wrong. -

Got off with another. Don't know why a defender wouldn't be trained to stick to the man in that situation. -

So close to being solely responsible for a big goal conceded again. Needlessly injured one of our players though. -

Butland has completely lost it -

Got off with one there. Will we ever learn to mark men for those type of cut backs? -

I think that is a sensible selection. Relieved with it tbh. No naivety, we’ve set up to be compact and difficult to beat. I like Jefte being pushed up too both because he is a liability defensively but also because he is by far our fastest player on the counter. -

So I think what you are trying to say is that Jose is not going to know what's hit him? -

First and foremost, I’m delighted for Barry tonight. I would have been gutted if this has gone the other way because people were ready to pounce and villify him (for clarity, not people on this forum!). Congrats Barry on a great start. -

I'm still going to dig out my Ferguson 6 top. Not that it will fit. -

Conducting the search for a new manager with Clement in place could have been disastrous though. He already looked like he had lost the fight, and it’s a bit humiliating. I think their hand was forced. -

I don't know how you can blame anyone for wanting him gone. The season has been an unmitigated disaster domestically. Clement had understandably completely lost the stands and the dressing room. As long as he was in post, the board couldn’t really conduct a proper search for a replacement, and keeping him after deciding he'd go at the end of the season wouldn’t have been good either. -

No chance. We had hit rock bottom. Completely lost the dressing room. Nothing can be worse than where we are just now. -

I take it Barry can’t be convinced to be a player-manager? Worth asking anyway. -

Gulp. Were Kris Boyd and Steven Thompson not available? Could have completed the Pundit’s dream team. -

Will ultimately be remembered for an unbelievable collapse in his first season where he blew an incredible chance to claw back some ground from Celtic. 15 points dropped in only 10 games, and almost a carbon copy of how he finished at Monaco. I’m not sure this season will be memorable long term to anyone. Very frustrating we doubled down on him and ignored red flags for a long time but at least it’s done now. -

We need someone who has plenty experience as a caretaker manager. It has to be Murty. -
I just knew it. We are absolutely shocking defensively.
