Unfortunately, the one problem Scottish and indeed British clubs have is the problem of work permits. Using your example of PSV, they can go and sign anyone from anywhere as they don't have to worry about work permit. Going back a few years now, when they signed Ronaldo, Rangers could never have signed him even if they wanted to due to him at that time not meeting permit criteria. Don't think it's a matter of us not identifying the players, more that most of the major European clubs will also have identified them and then it's matter of trying to entice them to Scotland and the SPL.

Well i did say before that he and Boyd had a training ground bust up which may or not be why the big man is seeing so little action at the moment. And he Bazza, McGregor, and Hutton when he was here are very close knit group. And looks like it could be another longgggggggggggg season for us.

If I was Carlos I would be looking at what happened to Jean Alain Boumsong and think long and hard about decamping to the Premiership. Boumsong looked a real class act in the short period he was with us....always looking to play it out from the back at first but resorting to longer balls towards the end...something I feel was due to him not having Bazza dropping back to pick up the ball as if i am correct he was at Blackburn at the time. But come the January transfer window Boumsong was off to Newcastle for £8 million which in part helped us resign Barry and he was nothing short of a disaster down there before being offloaded to Juventus in Serie B. Now Carlos has had what is widely accepted as an outstanding first season in Scottish football. From all accounts hes embraced and been embraced by the club. After our European run/ Hutton sale surely we are in a stronger financial position than we have been for years? And to be honest, we are not that many players away from having a right good team...but that starts by keeping the decent ones we have. Celtic cocked up by not building on their Uefa Cup run a few seasons ago...would hate us to go down the same road. We should be using that exposure to entice top players to us, not be a stop over for them on way to the Premiership. Carlos I hope will stay...ignore the Premiership...and if he does go, get himself back to one of the big Spanish sides. As for Cousin, I said back in January i'd be appalled if he pulled on a Rangers jersey again after trying to wangle his move to Fulham. SInce then he's actually appalled me more with his half hearted efforts and loose cannon persona. I wouldn't have had him in the team since January, would much rather Boyd was getting regular games but even after he was injured he was straight back in the team when fit. Can't wait till this guy is out of Ibrox. Malky

That must be 50k a week you meant? If it's 50k a month the championship sides would be well after him. Then again, he's injury prone, never fit...be the PERFECT Rangers summer signing

Well considering Cuellar is Spanish..and as a matter of course they have minimum fee release clauses inserted in their contracts this story could have some credance.

Lets get the dosh out and get Ronaldinho and Et'oo from Barca. Sod its, lets get Henry as well...he seem unsettled
-
Does this include outgoing players? If so expect Kris Boyd to be departing for pasture new for £2.5 million. Think the Kenny Miller one is a done deal, Walter is probably his biggest fan and with Cousin likely to be off and Darch pretty useless at holding the ball up seems inevitable that Smiths favourite lone front man will be Ibrox bound again.

Strachan has bascially stalled Riordens career big time by hardly playing him for past 2 seasons. Guy was scoring loads of goals for Hibs and then gets stuck in the reserves at Parkhead behind donkeys like Miller and Hesselink...GOOD GOOD lol. And when he does play, he scores. Hmmm and Celtic accused of not scoring enough. Yep, Strachans a top manager all right. Major frustration, and feeling let down by his manager has probably led to this outburst...would assume he'll get fined for it. But then again, they got him for £300,000...hardly play the guy but want £1 million if anyone comes snifffing. Get real Chesney and give the guy a free and let him get on with his career down South. Would be good for the Scotland team if he could he still the player he was at Hibs.

Weird, I read somewhere that Zlatan Ibrahimovic of Inter was the highest paid player in the world, wages wise, but he isn't on the list either. In fact no Inter player is on it. Malky

You not go to the Air Canada Centre for some Maple Leafs action while you were in Toronto Gribz?

Not that when 2 teams home games keep getting called off, affecting the fixtures of everyone else...not to mention the expense of said call offs.

So, taking the new England away shirt as a template...

Yeah, lose the red bits on the shoulders and it looks not bad. Plainer the better in my book. Malky -
Is quite embarassing for the SPL when you see a picture like that. Let's face it, stadiums in Englands Championship and League 1 look far better than that, never mind one in Scotlands top tier. Malky

Fair enough it's Burleys first game and team. But let's face it, not going to be much difference between it and big Eck's last team now is there? Hell he even in papers yesterday saying about retaining David Weir! Walter says he playing him to much for Rangers and now Burley wants to keep playing him. Well if Burley starts him against Croatia it's a shocking start in my book. If there's such a serious dearth in good young Scottish centre backs then get the best one blooded in this afterall meaningless friendly. Malky

Honestly think Newcastle are in serious bother. Squad is totally shorn of all confidence, have a manager who in the past has proved he doesn't have the bottle when the going gets tough and they are always likely to leak goals. All it needs is for Owen to pick up another wee niggly injury and they'd be in serious bother. Derby are down, Fulham probably going to join them as Hodgson been thrown in at the deep end with a poor squad and some rushed Jan window signings. Bolton in recent seasons haven't been used to this position but in all honesty they've been punching above their weight for good few seasons but have enough scrappers in their team to get them out of trouble. Same can be said of Birmingham and Wigan. Think Reading will make it, they have guys up front who always liable to nick u goals but Sunderland may get sucked in to. Reckon Craig Gordons been worth a good few points to them this season. So for me it's Derby, Fulham and one from Sunderland/Newcastle. Malky

Tommy Burns cancer has returned.

Lost my dad to it 15 years ago when I was only 18 and one of my mates to it only last year. In both cases they were riddled with tumours when diagnosis finally came through. In my dads case he was dead within 7 months...my m8 lasted almost 18 months due to the advancement in medicine to 'control' the tumours. It is a terrible 'disease' with so many varients which really needs more money donated to research to find a cure. As for Tommy, he's beaten it before and I hope he beats it again. Believe his was a melonoma variant, surprised more ex pro footballers haven't been diagnosed with them. Malky -
Newcastle Want McGeady - £12m

Well put it this way, Alan Hansen in his column in the Daily Telegraph reckons Spurs signing of Hutton for £8-9 million quid was a bargain. Now if thats a bargain, then prices down south really have gone crazy!! -
Wee Johnny Hubbard used to own/run the local 5 a side footy complex down this way
-
Yeah, no offence to the SPL but think he'd need to be doing it consistently at a higher level than that to be considered for the Spanish side and don't think SPL is on Aragone's radar to be honest. Similar situation to one that affected Albertz and Klos.
-
Gets in the box and gets the goals though....and over 100 goals for Chelski is no bad going for a midfielder. Are you watching Bazza????

Have heard that Boyd and McCoist had a run in on the training ground. Something along the lines of someone had played a long ball, McCoist had expected Boyd to chase and get it, had gone off his head at Boyd not doing this and Boyd retorting that he'd like to see fat McCoist get it. You get the idea. Malky
-
Beginning to think that Smith/McCoist have got SERIOUS problem with Kris Boyd, the way he rarely starts games these days yet when he does come on he invariably scores. Hell McCoists scoring records could be under threat if they gave the guy a chance. Sounds like he played every other forward the night apart from the one most likely to get a goal. Malky

Could be handy though m8 if we can offload some of our promising youngsters to them for 6 months. Better playing competitive games at that level for them than reserve team football or sitting on the bench on a Saturday afternoon. Malky
