Half back ? A team in the old days used to be set up with goalkeeper, 2 fullbacks, 3 halfbacks, 2 wingers, 2 inside men and a centre forward. Barry Ferguson is a half back.

I'm not saying he should be chasing back to the half-way line. What I'm on about is closing down defenders or the keeper when the ball is deep in their half. Saving one of the half-backs from coming forward to do it. Having played a fair bit of football myself, all I can say is, I'm glad I'm not a midfielder in the same team as Boyd having to do HIS work as well as my own.

Apart from defensive lapses, I thought the team played o.k. We got a result on French soil which is no bad thing for a Scottish club. To be honest, I didny expect any praise at all from the media in this country. What I also didny expect was the amount of stick the whole team are taking on fans forums [present company excepted].

It's the same, at this time, before any away European match, I get all jittery, the nerves start going mental and I feel envious of the guys who've made the journey to the match. The game tonight is one I had marked down as a 'possible' for a visit too [but a busted knee ruled me out].
