Match Thread [FT] Rangers 2 (Cerny 34', 58') - 0 St Johnstone

Another thing from last night but also a general point about modern football: defender has back to forward and is covering the ball. Forward lays the merest of touches on defender, who immediately falls over. Free kick, every time. Infuriating. -

Both, I think. After our last three matches, I think twiddling my thumbs would be preferable to watching us. At least I could do it well on a consistent basis. I normally hate international breaks - not any more. -

Erm, we're not very good to watch. Two decent goals but other than that there's a lot of misplaced passes and general lack of conviction about us. You know it's bad when international breaks are a welcome relief. -

The only train they could get is at 23:40 and takes an hour, so it'd likely be 01:00 before they get home. -

Agree. I was hoping Tav was for the off during the Summer but he's here now and still offers something, so we may as well utilise him, particularly in these types of matches. -

Wingers are always a bit hit or miss. Cerny scored a screamer against Motherwell and has played okay in a couple of matches. His theatrics against Hibs really haven't helped his popularity. He's also too predictable and Clement should switch the wingers around to give opposition defences more to think about. -

Clement seems to prefer Lawrence at 10 and the Albanian wide. I think a big part of our problems in attack are Lawrence and Dessers. We have a 10 who lacks pace and rarely does anything of note and you all know my thoughts on Dessers. The Albanian is far more creative than Lawrence or Dowell. I'd rather see him or Hagi behind the striker. The formation we play requires better players at 9 and 10. -

That's what we were told about Beale (brains behind Gerrard). -

Deary me. And why do many people mistakenly write the name of a US city instead of the club based in Bergamo? It's Atalanta, named after the Greek Goddess. -

TV schedules (which, along with the Scottish Run, have resulted in this silly kick off time) are designed to suit the armchair fan - that has been the case for decades. The problem here is the travel issues for people attending the match. -

Mine's was 2-2 versus Marseille. They battered us until about 76 minutes, when we heroically turned it around. -

No such thing next season. -
Oops, autocorrect on. Meant Barron.

Plenty of strikers around who prefer having a shot to falling over. -

Cerny isn't endearing himself to the support. That miss combined with the tedious arms flailing 'come on' signal to the Govan front a while later - not a good combination. -
I thought Barton did okay, apart from the obvious error.

I think it was more of a general moan about performances of late (aimed as much at his teammates as the manager). -

Someone who can hold the ball up, does well against the scum and generally isn't an embarrassment. -

I'd just like to reiterate how much I can't stand Cyriel Dessers. A diving fanny and a person who does nothing but make excuses for his poor play. His demeanour, constantly complaining to referees and opposition players (none of whom are listening) whilst play goes on, is utterly pathetic and not becoming of a professional sportsman. He's useless when it counts. We really need to get rid of him. -

The bipolar support is here. We've bought some decent players. Others, not so good. That's the market we're in. I enjoyed watching Diamonde and Raskin get annoyed tonight. I'm sick of our players playing like they couldn't care less. -

We should've skelped Malmo about 5-0 a week ago. -

That was a hard watch. I didn't think any of our players played particularly poorly but their quality in the final third was light years ahead of ours. The referee seemed to constantly favour Lyon. We could've had a penalty for the tug on Dessers' shirt and definitely should've had a free kick for the foul on Diamonde right outside their box. Barron has been an excellent addition but overall our midfield just isn't good enough. Lawrence and Dowell would be nowhere near a good Rangers team.
