If the same happened tomorrow, what is it you think C1872 could do about it? My guess is the square root of zip.

Imagine you’re on the board of RFC. Would you invite a supporter to join you? I wouldn’t. Why would you want to complicate the board function and risk conflict or loss of confidentiality?

I believe the boards of most football clubs have a love-hate relationship with their supporters. They rely on the support for income and will always make the right noises when commenting on the importance of the fans to the future of their club. At the same time, chairmen and directors tend to be very vary of their fans and view them with suspicion. It's in the DNA of most club directors to want to keep fans at a respectable arms length and certainly out of the boardroom. I think it's no different at Rangers.

Is there anything more depressing and futile in sport than Scottish football?

When I saw the other week that C1872 board members were spending members' donations on hospitality at Ibrox it told me all I needed to know about how little anything has really changed. They will never challenge the Rangers board, no matter what the issue is.

Working on the basis that the more we discuss the great Ted Moult, the less we need to say about Louis Moult or this "Tommy" character, I thought a visual introduction to the snipperwhapper generation....

Nail hit squarely on the head. The binary strategy of C1872 may well be its undoing.

That was also my first thought on the matter. There's no reason to extend the term of Club1872 board members, except to keep current board members in position for longer ... it should have absolutely no bearing on the completely separate issue of appointing a Rangers board member. Also, is the Club1872 membership being prepared for a change in priorities .... "This will mean that in order to maintain our position, Club 1872 will need to invest significant funds into Rangers over a number of share issues - most likely running into millions of pounds. Although we are very pleased with the reaction to our share issue campaign, at the current level of membership and contributions we are unlikely to be able to maintain that shareholding in the medium term." It seems to me this could be a fork in the road for Club1872. Dont suppose they managed to discuss Rangers fans being injured by smoke bombs or the issue of treating Celtic fans in the same way as fans of any other club?

You're truly ancient coming out with that shit BTW I also remember Ted Moult well but don't broadcast the fact.
-
Definitely so. It's not been a great time for our country.
-
You could say that about almost all sport in Scotland. As a nation we seem strangely attached to the past and reluctant to move forward. Why is that?

You have to laugh

Stupid Toytown excuse for a newspaper. If you’re reading this shit you’re only encouraging them.

Terrific news about John. Can only do good for his Rangers form.
-
That's the sort of thing that would sour any deal.
-
No, it's my speculation.

Sorry, I wasn't clear enough ... I meant there had to be more to it than that and I suspect it was basically a matter of trust/confidence in the board delivering what they were offering in terms of resources. The one thing you know coming to manage Rangers is that you won't be there long unless you deliver and, as we've seen recently, you can't deliver without the right players on the park. Whereas at Aberdeen he already has the resources the club is able to provide but without anything like the expectation at Ibrox. McInnes might not be the choice of some fans, and who knows how he would have performed, but he's not turning us down for inconveniences. Just my opinion anyway.
-
You don't turn down Rangers when you're an ex-player and managing a provincial club, it just doesn't happen. Unless there's a sub-plot we're unaware of.

All good points.

The board cleverly shut the door on further scrutiny when they appointed Murty until the end of the season. "Couldn't possibly discuss any other activity in this respect while Graeme Murty is still making his case to be retained in the position." IMO this is an issue about the board, not Graeme Murty. They appointed Warburton, got it wrong. They appointed Caixinha, got it wrong. The approached McInnes, got rebuffed. They had no choice but to appoint Murty short-term, is it working out? Do you really think they will get it right in the summer?
-
I doubt they're banking on raising investment based on any manager. Nor will those principally interested in the managerial choice (the fans) be involved in that investment - I exclude Club1872 who will invest even if Mickey Mouse is manager.
-
That could (should?) have applied when it became clear Caixinha had to go. There were no death warrants issued and no manager approached other than Derek McInnes. I think it's entirely possible Murty will be made permanent manager with the fans placated by adding more experience to his team. They're not daft but they're not ambitious leaders either.
