You’re describing how you think it should be. I’m describing how I think it will be. I’ve already said elsewhere I think we’re two or three seasons from winnng the league unless significant new investment appears but my views won’t change fans impatience or how they judge Gerrard. He has two seasons max to deliver.

I like his style too but style isn’t winnng and winning means trophies. Like every Rangers manager before him, he’s here for no other reason than to deliver trophies. If he does he’s a success, if he doesn’t he’s a failure. By May 2020 we’ll know which.

I think we’re losing the path here. The issue isn’t whether or not Gerrard will get time in the job but whether fans will show patience.

All well and good but the other feature of this club in recent years has been a propensity to appoint managers who could not and did not deliver success. Are you suggesting it would have been more profitable to have stuck with them even longer and, not being blessed with second sight, why would we treat Gerrard differently? I will concede the interpretation of what constitutes success can be a flexible and developing concept but in the end it's defined by trophies.

Any feel good factor that might have arrived with Gerrard is very fragile. It won’t take much to upset it and there’s no point wishing it were otherwise. Patience might be needed but it won’t be forthcoming. It is what it is.

Don’t want to appear callous but I’m prepared to turn a blind eye if any Nats want to head for the cliffs.

Steven Gerrard might come with a huge reputation as a player but he'll find that counts for very little if he can't deliver success ... and that's more than beating Dundee at Ibrox. He'll either put silverware on the table or he'll disappear back home as just another flop. It was ever thus.

There's been way too much buying of names by managers who couldn't identify or develop talent. It all comes down to who's available at our price but unless the manager can tell the difference between Jelavic / Prso and Ostenstadt / Jeffers then we'll get nowhere.
