The fact that most Rangers fans can't imagine this ever happening is a clear measure of how the world has gone to shit over the last 50 years. The wonderful, united, compassionate country you and I remember is gone forever.

I remember when a trip to an Aberdeen-Rangers game was a weekend affair and we were welcomed to the city. I've a clear memory of standing side by side with Aberdeen fans at Pittodrie and not a hint of animosity. That was the 1960s, before society lost its mind.

No doubt you're right and they'll certainly target Cantwell to get a reaction. For that reason I'd have liked to see Ryan Jack in midfield with Lundstram but if he's listed as 'doubtful' then I can't see Clement risking him. Otherwise, our midfield options look fairly lightweight.

I suspect his worst nightmare will be if we win all our remaining games and lift all the trophies we compete for. Not having anything to whine about would almost certainly see him committed.

Unless he suddenly morphs into Son-of-Beale, I think we need to be forming opinions of Clement in a couple of years at the earliest. The man has just arrive and this business of always judging people in advance is fairly dispiriting.

Surely no one in their right mind is suggesting Clement’s tenure depends on these 12 games. Because that would be idiotic.

Do we know discussions are actually planned and this isn’t just more baseless gossip?

Not a day goes by when I don't think about Rangers and on none of those days do I ever think about the Scotland international team. I'm not interested in the Scotland team or who plays in it. I never watch it and really couldn't give a stuff whether it succeeds or fails. It's like removing a thorn from under your fingernail.

It seems to have become de rigeuer to say Ridvan isn't good enough, I see it parroted everywhere, when he's clearly no more inadequate than any number of other players who don't seem to attract the same level of criticism. Instead of running the guy down, why don't we leave it to the manager to decide if he's good enough ... or not.

Damn but that's a very good team. However, I just couldn't bring myself to leave out Forrest and Henderson, two of the very best I ever saw and probably unequalled since. I can hardly believe I'm about to put McCoist back on the bench but for anyone who saw him Jim Forrest was peerless, an amazing goal scorer, like McCoist on steroids and on balance he gets my vote as the main striker. My remaining choice of forward is Brian Laudrup. Brian Laudrup and Jim Forrest. So, notwithstanding my original selections, the more I've thought about this team, the more I realise that it can only be done be leaving out some great players.
