Match Thread [FT] Celtic 2 - 1 Rangers (Tavernier 88)

What you seem to be saying is that the decision to award a penalty for handball is purely subjective and down to the whim of the officials, irrespective of video evidence. That would certainly seem to have been the case on Saturday right enough. I'd call that cheating. -

I didn't call it a crime. I called it a 'crime'. I don't know or care who Dermot is, or Jay Boothroyd. I speak for myself and I'm happy to form my own opinions based on what my eyes have seen. You seem quite confused in your arguments ... first you say a penalty should have been awarded, then you back off quoting something called a stonewall penalty, which apparently is something other than a penalty. Then you appear to enter the head of the Celtic defended to discover he was acting partly accidentally. I think you're seeing what you want to see. -

The offside issue is pure distraction. The issue here isn't whether Rangers were denied a possible goal but the manner in which a critical decision was taken by officials who came to a decision by all the wrong means and subsequently covered up their 'crime'. Whether or not a penalty kick would subsequently have been over-ruled, the real issue is the non-award of a valid penalty with no reference to any offside issue and the award of a bye kick rather than a free kick for offside. It's clear from this that offside was never considered in the decision not to award a penalty, despite clear video evidence of a hand ball offence. Offside only became an issue after the event and is a purely hypothetical consideration. -

This time it's a little different. In the great debate between incompetence or cheating, incompetence has been removed from the list of options. I've seen many previous examples over the years that have hinted at institutional cheating in Scottish football. In this case however, no persuasion is necessary and the sordid conspiracy has been laid bare for all to see. It will of course be covered up and buried. -
This is my last chance to post this evening so I'd like to take the opportunity to wish everyone on Gersnet a very happy, healthy and prosperous New Year. All the best to all of you in 2024.

I said on many occasions before VAR was implemented in Scotland that, far from assuring more accurate decision making, it would simply become another tool in the corruption of Scottish football to ensure an unfair advantage to Celtic. So it has turned out. -
Why has Dujon Sterling been languishing on the bench? He was head and shoulders our best midfielder.

Don't watch Sportscene, don't listen to Sportsound, in fact don't use the BBC at all. You'll immediately find there are no more problems.

Of course it's disappointing, how could it be anything else? But let's not get too despondent. This is the same team that Beale build and had effectively surrendered until Philippe Clement listed them and worked a few minor miracles, despite losing key players to injury. There was always going to come a point when we saw the limitations of what these players can deliver, even with proper management. The real improvements surely lie ahead of us as new players join the squad and lesser lights are cycled out. This is a season's work and I believe there are reasons to be cheerful, even in defeat. What I did like today was the way we refused to be subjected to a 5-0 defeat, which looked on the cards at one point. We definitely showed some of the spirit I want in a Rangers team, even if we lack the quality to make it count. It is what it is but I'm convinced we are in the fight for the first time in years. -

Hey panic merchants - keep believing. Two months ago we were out of this league race, now we’re back in it and a cup in the trophy room. This is a bad day at the office but that’s all it is. -

The whole thing might be just a diversion of course but I could understand if Clement has decided to put pragmatism before price in this particular instance. -

Is it worth pointing out that signing Shankland and the figure of £4m are both just unsubstantiated gossip.
