  1. history's what historians like to think happened
  2. deontic modality: all the coolest kids are using it.
  3. raaaaammmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. Wow, you changed this since I last read it. I still honestly don't know what you're talking about. I'd ask you to point out where I've acted superior, but you'd only do the wee bait and switch trick where you move to something else you think the person is precious about to wind them up. Man, you're excellent at winding people up, but you need to change the approach - jazz it up a little Still, at least some things don't change, and you can't have too much of a good thing. Good to have you back from your hiatus, btw.
  5. http://www.gersnetonline.co.uk/vb/showthread.php?t=19395&page=12 it goes on for a bit. if you want the broad summary, pete was right and wabash admitted it. muhahaha!
  6. That I dunno. Felt as though I still done well though.
  7. That's a damn site better than anything I got in exams that included numbers
  8. We had the 'what actually are the rangers traditions' debate a few nights ago
  9. i fecking gave examples man. i don't believe for a second you haven't heard of a modal verb. i thought they done grammar in school back in yours and frankie's day? :fish: ps now going to be scrutinising your financial posts for jargon.
  10. few people on that board complaining he cant handle the physical aspect of the british game.
  11. aye, but don't get it in your eyes or you lose your virginity and sign for middlesborough.
  12. modal verbs (and adjectives and adverbs) express degrees of either probability or obligation . in this case it kinda matters cause we want to know whether bain's saying he expects him to be here as a matter of probability, based on say, knowing he's bought a plane ticket, or whether he expects him to be here as a matter of obligation, depending on rapid not being cuntish, in which case he'll probably not be here at all. the rest of the quotes indicate the fecking latter but the headline lures you in with the possibility it coudl be the former.
  13. I'm particularly sensitive to it just now man. I've been awake since Friday, with 2-3 hours sleep most, doing critical systemic functional analysis on two newspaper articles on a set of crime statistics. Finished at 6am this morning, such a good feeling but feel currently quite mentally disbalanced. They're madly sneaky with language, those journos. Takes 20 pages of analysis to work out all the ways in which they're subtly at it. It's not just absently sloppy, it's purposefully and systematically sloppy to their own evil ends.
  14. i hate it when modals are ellipted. "Martin Bain expects Jelavic will be in Glasgow" versus "Martin Bain expects Jelavic may be in Glasgow" versus "Martin Bain expects Jelavic to be allowed to be in Glasgow". should probably just click the link.
  15. I just hate the idea if he's no good we goto the next one down the list Naw, he's probably just an interesting opportunity that's worth a little glance while we efficiently and quietly approach the people we've been systematically rooting out and assessing over the last six months
  16. So this transfer window's really draining your natural optimism too?
  17. Then they woudln't say it was new and not since the original Ellis shennanigns, sayings how they can't know that, because it's not true. (Realise it's not Stefanovich saying it, btw, but whoever originally did).
  18. Ostenstad (sayings how we've had jeffers and rothen alreadty in the thread)
  19. Why would someone say it was new when it's not? Mental.
  20. "Found his level" from Sheffield fecking Tuesday? WTF?
  21. Haha, the only thing worse than trusting a youtube video is trusting one that's anywhere near Jeffers.
  22. Can one of the amazing number-y people explain to me how it is we're so vastly different than Celtic? Has our spending really been that much more? Didn't we have the debt down to nothing only recently? How is it we're so much further in the shit?

  24. i've got a good feeling about him too. i always do when we sign a foreigner i've never heard of in the hope that he's the next laudrup or someone. he's still far away enough to have the possibility of being perfect.
