  1. it does look weak, even with the 'better' signings.

    mcgregor

    hutton weir webster smith

    brown hemdani thomson super-lm

    ferguson

    genuine-european-class-striker

i think that would be a strongish team, but i think its unlikely we'll get a left midfielder of genuine quality, much less a 'can-do-it-all' striker for ferguson to play off with forward runs made by brown and said left midfielder.

all this and peak oil. its depressing times.

  2. Yes - as IMO he is more likely to score the 'important' goals

i think this is an important point. prso is not a natural goalscorer like boyd, nothing like it - but he's got infinitely more quality. and when there's ten minutes to go, we've had our backs to the wall for a 15 minute and the ball drops in the box, you really think that prso's quality and experience, more than anyone else's, will just turn the ball goalwards.

  3. i think walter smith is a better manager now than he was.

he seems to have clearly identified the problems, and every assessment he gives of a game seems to be exactly what i'm thinking.

for instance at the weekend he firmly made the point that he understood and appreciated the fact that we had to be playing a lot better passing football - this is clearly one of his goals, and the getting the results hasn't blinded him to the larger changes needed.

he also recently came out with the brutally honest assessment that we are five years or so behind celtic in terms of youth development despite murray park. this is a mark of a more mature approach to management that has seen the likes of man u - where previously he was only interested really in the first team and wouldnt give bf a game.

i wasnt pleased when he came in initially, but i am being won round. he has a genuine presence that this club needs at the helm.

  4. Just because one keeper was pish doesn't automatically mean the other should get MOTM.

McGregor DID have a couple of outstanding saves, the one from Fletcher (I think) and then Brown - the one from Brown he couldn't have timed any better.

i never said it was - as your second paragraph shows. had mcgregor not made *several* important saves their goalie's arse ups could have been meaningless.

  5. M8, you have missunderstood what the guy is saying - he is attacking Irish people for attaching themselves to a Scottish (sectarian) Club due to non-footballing issues. He isn't ripping into Sligo Rovers for being Irish, or singing Irish songs. Completely different from OUR press attacking OUR songs.

    Cammy F

    yeah, 'tis fair.

  6. agreed - no-one would have the guts to print that here. tell you what, though, if someone wrote an article about the stupidity of pursuing britishness and singing songs about hating celtic, how many of us would see it as yet another media attack on the club?

  7. Exactly Barry - and for this reason he shouldn't be pissed off at Klos starting as it is in the best interests of the team - even if his sending off WAS unfair, he shouldn't have squared up to the guy as we ALL know that these teams have a tendency to cheat !

agreed - at to be perfectly fair to the referee he had a good game. he let the game flow as much as possible, and we got away with being strong in the tackle.

even if he didnt do anything, to be anywhere near the incident is irresponsible and he should be held responsible.

  8. McGregor will know that picking Klos is simply short-term to give Klos games for match-fitness for Europe, so he won't be overly pissed off I can't imagine.

i dont understand why anyone's worrying about poor allan mcgregor - he was the one that got himself sent off, and caused all the problems in the first place.

klos looked grossly unfit when he came on, but he's really our only choice. he should be given a run out at the weekend.

  9. just some of the comments made in various sources:

But our support on a European night does inspire you.

"When you come out to a reception like that it gets you going.

"Everybody knows that it's not like that at every game at Ibrox but on a European night it's totally different." - Ian Murray

"I have just spoken to my mum and dad and said to them that walking out in front of 50,000 fans at Ibrox is something that you dream about as a boy. The fans were magnificent and they got right behind them from the start. I think this helped us a lot tonight as there were a few nerves at the start but once you heard the crowd I think we all settled straight away and you could see that in the performance."- Thomson

"All of us at Rangers congratulate our supporters for the tremendous atmosphere they created at Ibrox tonight and the backing they gave the team on a big European night for the club.

"Too readily our supporters are subject to criticism and tonight showed they can create an atmosphere that would be hard to match at any other stadium in Europe." - Bain

and i'm sure a few more will follow. all the incentive needed surely for a similar atmosphere next european night!
