Yeah, I don't do that either.

I don't agree or disagree. They're just an irrelevance to me. I'm going into the preseason hoping all of our signings will be wonderful, and I'm excited because we'll have new players and I have very little or no opinion on them until I actually see them play.

I remember when we signed Herrera and Alfie. In the first friendly at Ibrox, Herrera played firs half and Morelos the second and it was clear that Alfie was by far the better player. I didn't know anything about either beforehand.

It's not to say that I'm denigrating the use of statistics. I've just personally got no interest in them and it's disappointing to see many (not you) using them and writing off Lammers before they understand how we're going to use him. or how he's going to perform in a Rangers jersey.

Literally no one here has written Lammers off.

  2. Of course you can do some basic analysis and come to some conclusion and discuss it, otherwise we'd be as well as closing the forum and just agreeing with everything Beale says and does. There are basic facts out there that the boy has had an extremely barren last three seasons by even the worst standards, I hope he can turn it around because if he doesn't do it rapidly here then he will be chewed up.

Yeah didn't really play much there but was more prolific in Holland which is probably a better comparison with the SPFL.

Yep, but I understand he has had a bad knee injury since then (sound familiar?) and after his recovery his stats are woeful. I haven't seen him, I just hope Beale isn't wooed by the player he was rather than the player he is.

    I'll go through it.

I'm only going by the facts of his last season: 2 goals in 25 games, over two loan spells. That looks bad. But, it's only bad if he's getting hundreds of chances. If he's only getting a couple of chances, then no one - not even Haaland - will score a lot.

I'm then looking at his xG: The quality of the chances he has had. His xG for the season was 4: from the quality and quantity of the he's had, he should have scored 4.

So, he is under-performing, but it's not atrocious.

My other point was he looks like a pressing forward: good presser, good defensive numbers and a good link-up player. Those types don't necessarily score a lot - Firmino, for example; he scored 10-15 goals a season. (I'm not saying he's as good as Firmino, just that he looks that style of player.)

    That's all I'm saying.

Why only look at the last season though? It's been three years of no return, that's not a blip its consistently terrible. I hope Beale has been scouting him recently and isn't buying based on what he remembers from years past. I'm sure he's done his due diligence but it is a worry.

I don't think you understand my point.

I’m certainly struggling to understand it. A forward who has been unable to get himself into scoring positions doesn’t get a free pass just because he may be a ‘pressing forward’. The return is abysmal over the past three seasons, he will have to have a mighty turn around quickly because the crowd will gobble him up if he starts as slowly as he has done over the last 3 seasons.

He can't be blamed for his xG. He can only take the chances he's given.

What you'd criticise him for is scoring under his xG, which he did last season. But, it's 2 goals from an xG of 4. It's not atrocious. Two goals from an xG of 10 would be atrocious.

Like I've said elsewhere, he looks like a pressing forward in profile. They're not generally goalscorers.

You’re being extremely generous if you’re saying he’s not at all responsible for being in a position to score.

I'm asking because I see a pressing forward in Lammers' profile.

A pressing forward won't get you 20-25 goals a season.

I get frustrated when people judge players by some vague idea of a forward that does everything under the sun - and similarly for all positions. When many judge a forward they are judging him to a traditional target man number 9 standard.

    Not every forward is that.

Rangers aren't playing a forward that can only manage 4 goals and 2 assists in 3 years mate.

    Calm down.

I'm just asking what the stats are?

You said 'stats', which suggests you have an array of stats, but I assumed, rightly, that you just meant one stat in particular. I wanted to clear that up.

His stats are not just poor mate, they are utterly shit. Don't try and sugar coat it or anything. We must have scouted him very thoroughly if we believe he is worth the kind of money we are talking about, because on paper he is awful.

What are the other red flags?

Dude here going hard on the defence of a player no one knows. We are all going on stats, and the major ones for his role are not really just underwhelming, they are entirely at the wrong end of the scale. That doesn't mean he can't be a success, but of course I'm hardly excited to be signing a forward who hasn't been able to finish or assist for 3 years.

  10. Obviously I'd like Cantwell to stay. However, thinking about this practically we all know there is a substantial rebuild required. The rumour is we've signed Dowell who is a similar type of player. If Cantwell were to go now for a large sum then financially it would be an incredible deal. Football wise it may allow for us to do a complete rebuild of the squad, and we potentially have already signed his replacement.

obviously I don't want good players to leave, but equally we need to take a good profit when we can, otherwise it really hurts us long term.

  11. It's nice to beat them in the moment but after that season I feel some anger inside to be honest. It's another example of what the squad can do when the pressure is off. Celtic probably learnt more from the match, their squad depth is not actually that strong.

Will be glad to see the back of this season. Normally I'm massively hyped after winning an old firm match, but I just can't feel this one.

Once again, no offense but I mean come on now.

Like a buddy of mine and his stupid Porsche.

Loves that car but he drives it for a month and then it's back in the shop.

I say "get you a stang, a vette"

He says "no they dont have the balance"

The balance on what? The car lift at the shop?

Some folks love gettin their ass kicked.

I don't think there is anything wrong with liking a player that has had injury problems.

  13. 1 minute ago, Rousseau said:

Mal could have worded better, but your friend is saying Dowell's attitude stinks and he barely plays because of injury, and then he says he'd be gutted to see him go as he's one they want to keep.

    A little strange, no?

I didn't take that, I read that he was at times crucial and their most important player that provides goals and assists, but he couldn't keep it up consistently due to injury.
