  1. Must be a generational thing. I remember teams with the likes of a Gazza & Laudrup, who won the league every year, getting booed off after draws at home, even when we were 10 points clear at the top of the table. Nowadays the young team like to get behind bang average players who consistently fail to get results. I’ve always believed that you get what you are prepared to put up with. If folk start accepting performances like the last 4, then we will never see the league flag back at Ibrox. But maybe I’m living in the past. Sad fact is most of the young fans today have never seen a proper Rangers team, so probably think Candeias, Halliday, Ryan Kent etc are good players. That seems to be the view on my twitter timeline anyway, where you are called a ‘Rangers Da’ if you think we should be better than Celtic..

  2. Sign of the times I’m afraid. You could even say we have shown consistency by reaching every semi-final in every Cup since then. When did we last make 6 semis in a row?

A few years ago it was Celtic who had a Hampden hoodoo under Neil Lennon. Indeed they were losing to the likes of Ross County & Carly Thistle. Fact is these games are never easy, nor are they ‘home’ games.

Sunday was a decent performance by a tired team with no cutting edge. We haven’t replaced Windass with another midfielder who can score 20 goals a season. McInnes fancied his chances on Sun against us as he knew Morelos & Lafferty we’re out and we’d tire in the closing stages. It was better than last year against Motherwell. Not good enough yet, but getting there, hopefully..

Well the powers that be have allocated Rangers 26,000 tickets for the game with our opponents getting the rest

That’s a minimum 26,000. Does that cover the ST holders on the priority scheme? Sheep won’t sell the other 20 odd thousand anyway. They don’t have more than 15,000 season ticket holders.

  4. The SFA get a lot of well deserved criticism, but it must be almost impossible to run Scottish football with all these paranoid nutcases in charge of clubs. They couldn’t play the semis on the Saturday, so had to play both on the Sunday. They were contractually obliged to use Hampden for Rangers & Celtic games if the police didn’t object. Surprisingly the cops never objected at first, common sense having long ago been replaced with hippy dippy blue sky thinking at police Scotland. The SPFL had no choice, and must have been relieved when the cops changed their mind. Any other country though, all the fans would have been looking forward to this festival of football at their national stadium!

Lawwells latest statement is ludicrous, but hopefully shows he is losing control of the SFA. We should release a statement saying we would have welcomed a game at Murrayfield as our fans can sell out any ground in the country..

Anyway, Murrayfield is a lucky ground for Celtic. They lost 6-1 to Legia Warsaw there, but still went through to the next round cos Legia made an illegal substitution there 5 minutes from the end ☹️

  5. Jim White doesn’t take his kids to the Celtic games, Spiers does.

White has done well for himself. He could have been a nonentity like Delahunt but chased the money & made a decent career down south. However if you work for Talksport it is part of your job to wind people up. Why folk let them succeed is beyond me. I suppose it is a bit like Rangers fans who constantly read blogs from the likes of that guy Phil, not comparing Jim to him. Considering how much so-called comedy Only an Excuse used to take the push out of him for being a bluenose, I am pleased he has done well. He could have stayed in the Scottish media and become a parody of his Only an Excuse character, like Chick Young did, but unlike him Jim White had a bit of pride and ambition, so he got out.

End of the day though, Rangers do have an anti-social element in our support. Whether it is bigger or smaller than other clubs’ I don’t know, but it’s not important. If somebody assaults someone at their work they should be jailed, whoever they support. I can’t even remember that linesman making any particularly bad decisions either!

  6. I think it is kind of amateur-ish that the guy doesn’t read out half time substitutions or other half time scores either. And don’t say we can all check them on our phones, as the signal on my iPhone never works in that big a crowd & the WiFi doesn’t work either. They don’t even have sky sports news on in the foyer at half time either..

  7. This move is just another step on the road to Americanisation of our sport. Away goals rule has added drama, encouraged attacking football & avoided penalty deciders. The only reason to scrap it is as an excuse to scrap extra time (you couldn’t have a team getting an extra 30 mins at home in 2nd leg without away goals) and the only reason to scrap extra time, as they have done in English league cup, is because advertisers don’t like it, and neither do lazy players. Basically TV companies & UEFA want us spending more time watching adverts & players don’t want to have to play an extra half hour during the week.

  8. I never bothered taking my ticket. These days I’m married and the only realistic/responsible option was the direct club flight. But 500 quid to spend longer on the plane than in Spain is a waste of money for a game that is on the telly anyway. You’re not even allowed a drink on the plane either apparently..

  9. Johnny Russell is a better player. Naismith is not as good as Morelos. Maybe a better finisher, but you can’t judge players on internationals. We signed the likes of David Healy and Salenko based on scoring goals against minnows. Albania are probably punching above their weight being in division C in the nations league. Back in the good old days when there were only 32 countries in UEFA, Albania were always the worst team in Europe!

  10. Just got allocated a ticket for the game in Spain. Does anybody know of how to book onto any buses going from either Benidorm or Salou for the match? Any advice on cheap flights etc would also be appreciated..

  11. The loan system as it is currently used is a direct consequence of the financial imbalance in favour of clubs from the English premier league and one or two others. Back in the day players of the standard of Kent & Ojaria would have signed for us for half a million. But since teams like Liverpool can hoover up the market of young talent then these boys end up with artificially high transfer values which clubs like Rangers can’t afford. So I won’t feel any guilt about taking loan players, it’s the same level of player we would be signing permanently. Kyle Bartley, Vladimir Weiss, Harris Vukcic, Jason Cummings, Coulibally are/were all decent players who will never play for a bigger club than us.

Kent contributed nothing and should have been hooked at half time.  Middleton was a far better option tonight,  even for the last 20 minutes

Can’t agree with that, I thought Ryan Kent was superb, reminded me of a young Steven Davis.

The only player I thought was off the pace was Coulibaly. Too many fancy flicks, wasn’t surprised when SG took him off. We look solid defensively & in midfield, but not creating enough genuine chances. Possibly because Tavernier & Candeias are being told to sit a lot deeper than last season.

  13. I think we need a wee reality check here. It’s a fair bet that Osijek have better players than us, so I don’t know why everybody seems to be expecting an easy game. Croatia have just got to the World Cup final ffs. Scotland haven’t even qualified for 20 years, and our Scottish players can’t even get into their squad at the moment. Osijek are seeded for a reason. It would be a huge achievement to beat them. Steven Gerrard has already done better than a Caixinha by beating a better team than Progres were, so I hope he isn’t going to get stick if we lose.

And as for Maribor, they have knocked out us, Hibs, Celtic and Aberdeen in recent years, so I don’t think they would be fearing us either..
