Compliance Officer to Charge Sinclair? Probably Not
Walterbear replied to StuGers's topic in Rangers Chat
Looking at it again on larger screen I would say that the Dundee player is standing his ground and not moving his knee to Sinclair. Sinclair knee catches the defender and then he makes an absolute meal of it. Easy to see why Beaton got conned. -

He has certainly exaggerated any contact with the knee and made a neal of it. There was no contact with the left foot. I honestly can't tell if there was contact with the knee from that angle. Sutton desperately looking for the foul when it's not clear at all. Also noticed the BT 'pundits' thought a Dundee player should have got a straight red for a studs up challenge in the first half. Different tune when it's Rangers. -

Last night we were wise when being fouled. Our players went down and played more 'professionally' in that respect (seemed that way to me anyway). Bit of continental cunning required against the hammer throwers. Noticed Dorrans talking to the ref a bit too. So often we just take it and get in with it like in the Hibs game and we're not 'cute' enough. If Tav had just appeared 'poleaxed' and our players challenged the ref more rather than getting in argie bargie with Hibs the hooligan Stokes would have walked. I'm not advocating diving but we need to use opponents aggression against them more. -

Incidentally if Dec John had been wearing hoops last night and called Tierney the 'pundits' would have been creaming themselves so let's get some confidence here. DJ has actually played a decent spell in the EPL whereas Tierney hasn't. DJ has played for a Welsh squad which got to the Euro semis wheras Scotland haven't qualified for a tournament in 20 years. On the face if it DJ is every bit as good as Tierney. Hodson has played outstandingly for a NI side against the best teams in the world. Lustig is no great shakes. Morelos will be a better player than the racist before the end of this season. A few wins on the bounce playing like we did for parts of the game last night and in other games but more consistently and this team can close the gap to some degree. Just need to keep strengthening positions which is why I'm glad we didn't pay over the odds for Walker or Maclean when we might get them both for 500k in just over a couple of months. Both these players can play the transitioning football PC goes on about and in areas we need strengthened. -

I don't think he changed his philosophy from an attacking perspective (or transition as folk like to call it). Moving Jack wider is probably to support Tav in transitioning back to defense when we lose the ball (or after the 3 secs when we try to get it back). Pretty sure he will play back 3 on Saturday with 5 across the middle and Morelos up front where they are weakest (centre) but also going wide to help occupy their full backs. We have good strength in depth at CH but are weak at FB so I think he will put 3 in. I think Saturday will be too soon for Pena (he still looks as if he is adjusting to the lack of space and time compared to Mexico) and can see him resorting to Miller to support Morelos and try to get in space between their CHs (OF experience) with Pena coming in later or I might just ask Miller to sit on Brown's toes as I don't think they play well when he's not circulating the ball. Dorrans will play central pivot in front of the back 3 but drop quickly when we lose possession with the wider CHs moving right or left depending on where the attack is coming from. I think we need 3 good aerial defenders because Tav and Hodson will concede headers if diagonal balls are played like the one we lost the goal to last night. The left is still a problem the only function I can see for Windass would be to sit wide and high to keep Tierney occupied but Tierney will outplay him so Windass has to be dropped. But we don't have options that I can see to shore up the left when we lose the ball unless we go with a back 3 and Hodson a wide holding part of the 5 midfield. 3-5-1-1 and John sitting just in front of him. We must have an attacking threat against them so 3 CHs and protection in front of them is the only solution that gives us defence and attack with the squad we have imo. -

Yep he is a big negative. Dorrans bawling at him during a 'hiding' episode. There were a few such episodes. It's hard to believe Dean Windass is his dad. Suspect Mrs Windass might have a secret. -

Good first half and they were on top towards the end of the 90. I thought we played really well in ET and ran the game down well at the end. Energy levels of candeias, Morelos, tavernier superb. Jack was good in first half and John had a good game. Excellent young CH in the making too and Cardoso also looks better without Bruno. He was more commanding. Couple of negatives but saw signs tonight that we are on the right track. Pretty sure there will be a few rough times but the response in ET, the cameraderie in the group and energy levels are real positives. -
This thread actually highlights why it's not all pedros fault as some would claim. Half of us want to park the bus and half of us don't but we all fear a doing.

[FT] Partick Thistle 2 - 2 Rangers (Morelos 19; Dorrans 77)

The core team doesn't contain almost 50% of Warburton signings. Core Warburton 1st team players are Fod, Tav and Windass (who is pysh). Fod and Tav are also not in the class of player we would hope is the final level for Rangers. We are actually scoring some goals and the defence isn't as bad as it was although it's still weak. The midfield is stronger (Dorrans, Jack). There is defintitely improvement to come in this team whereas Warburton had hit a glass ceiling. But is it going to be good enough to go on a 20 game winning streak to put us in with a shout of winning the league? Can it be significantly strengthened with 2 or 3m and get us back to winning some cups in the first instance? Yes. Do we have North of £15m and the time to rip it all up and start again? No. We have to go with this style of play and if we can make improvements in player and management staff en route then we should obviously do so. -
Need to try and make them play back the way. 3 at the back. 5 midfield. Herrera and Morelos up front. Use our midfield to press and a bit more back to front long ball. Their central defence is weak. I'd actually have one player to sit on Brown. Must maintain a goal threat. Parking the bus and losing is worse than having a go. Plus I don't think it will work. The racist and Armstrong can pop them in from outside the box and parking the buss will mean free kicks in dangerous positions. Need to keep believing in ourselves.

If someone can point out where we are going to get the £3m compensation to pay off PC and his backroom staff and the £10m+ needed to get some kind of parity with Celtic in terms of players then please tell us. We will have to offload and rebuild the team and management staff again in one fell swoop if this is to be solved quickly. We are still surviving on loans from wealthy supporters and unless someone knows where the magic money tree is then we will have to continue on the current path and give the club our support. It's all very well to say things should be better but everyone knows this is not a short term fix after the ravaging of the club and everyone knows there's very little cash. For all the criticisms (and I'm as frustrated as anyone when I see carbon copy mistakes leading to goals or missed chances) one thing PC has done is virtually turn over the playing staff and he is trying to take the club in a way that is perceived to be modern football. Can't make an omelette eithout breaking some eggs and OC has the right to boot out players who will not follow his ideas. I thought there was a general view from most he needed the first quarter at least and up to the new year so I don't get this reaction right now. The bigger problem is we don't have options and choices and that is still an off the field problem and heavily linked to our current inability to float or sell the club. When we solve that problem folk can consider options and choices but there isn't a manager out there who can overnight get us challenging Celtic with the current financial disparity. The only way is to follow a strategy and football ethos that should work once we learn how to play it throughout our club and gradually fill the first team gaps from the market or from youngsters coming through the ranks. This is work in progress and it's another year at least. We haven't won a major cup for years so frankly I'd take the league cup as our first objective above the scvm. Get that name Rangers FC on another senior trophy. Seriously you'd think OC had taken us from years of success to nothing. We've had years of lower league football and ZERO senior trophies. That's where we are. -
Makes sense to me. Whether it does to Josh Windass is another matter. He's saying what most of the fans are saying. Flogged 2 goals, gave away possession too easily, made some poor decisions with passing or didn't execute properly and weren't defensively organised. Code for our players are not good enough. The choice is either persist with a playing ethos or adjust the ethos to the quality of player. It would be odd if our youth teams were being taught the 'correct' way but our first team played outdated tactics. Perhaps we need to be more patient as it's clear we need better players for the first team but don't have a lot of cash to pay for the quality required for these tactics. At the beginning of the season I had no aspiration of winning the league this time around but the progres result im afraid is the one that has put him under pressure. You also can't play this way with players who have never really done it. It doesn't look easy. However the 2 defensive mistakes were nothing to do with transitions and other jargon. It was a lack of leadership and defensive organisation. If I was playing CH or captaining the team I'd have been tearing a strip of folk who were out of position and not just after flogging a goal. I don't know why that isn't happening other than we don't seem to have that kind of player.

In fairness the dogs were relatively expert to the shepherds.

A few on Hibnet supporting the board. If I was putting personal millions into my club like board members do I'd want to move on rather than threaten my investment. Hibs supporters should be grateful to their board who try to take the club forward whilst the football casuals and those who attack players on the park try to drag it backwards.

First game for DJ but he will have to improve. Don't think Wallace has got it anymore. Too long spent in the lower leagues. -

Tav didn't mark one never mind two. Goalies organise walls. It's one of the most basic responsibilities in football. Alves has achieved more in his career than the rest of our team put together btw. Yes we need to bind in the wall and we needed 2 more players in that wall. You could see the wall was inadequate before he hit the ball. The goalie needs to make sure everyone knows he is responsible and that wall was rubbish before the shot! We are also just not good enough defensively in the wide positions. That is the core problem. We go forward and lose the ball and get caught out. If we don't have the players to play the system then it's not going to work. -

Walterbear replied to pete's topic in Rangers Chat
Suggestions Alves can't defend are ludicrous. You organise and defend as a team. First goal was a poor wall. The goalie organises walls. Second was poor defending on our left and then no cover on right. You can argue central defenders should cut out the cross ball but I'm afraid tabernier was caught short yet again. It's not rocket science. -
We should be able to buy a player with the compensation money we receive from Benfica TV. Can't see how Rangers will not forgo the opportunity to sue them for a few million and bolster our squad.
-
They would need a board meeting or conference call of directors to respond formally. After one week looks like the Tims are isolated. Bit of power play going on here. I would guess most clubs want to keep Celtic in their place and remind them they are not Scottish fitba. Hope so.

Always had a soft spot for Porto even before then. i doubt the story is an official Benfica view.

Great job.

I've just looked at this twitter account for first time. There was a bloke used to do this on Scotland footymad years ago collecting the more bizarre stuff from forums of us and them and it actually made pretty funny reading. They are definitely winning these days ?

Good post Frankie. -
Yep and they all crashed in the europa league so didn't do well out of that either. Meanwhile clubs in the lower leagues were benefitting from big attendances against us. I know a Berwick board member who says it was great for them. Will these clubs follow Lawell ? I can't see what they would have to gain. Meanwhile the haters continued to benefit from TV money from Rangers games being shown virtually every week as a ' lower league' club subsidised them. And they talk about fairness and integrity and sanctions. They are leeches.
