I think the factor you describe has always been around to some extent. Even when I was at school anyone who was big enough and good enough could play for older teams but I don't recall anyone who was older but smaller being allowed to play in a younger age group that matched their size, "playing down" which I presume this would also cover.

When I first saw the heading something about fat people came to mind but once reading it decided the concept does make good sense. Where's the challenge for say a good ten stone 12 year old being pitched in against a six stone 12 year old who may be every bit as good or even better but can't compete simply because he is a late developer in that age group. It may even drive him to give up the game while the bigger one who isn't so good to start with also never develops any further because it was all so easy for him early on then he too becomes discouraged when finally ending up in amongst players his own size and doesn't know how to cope with it.

I think it would be accurate to say that none of us were happy about Dundee scoring and especially the manner of it which we have seen before but the point of my little deliberation isn't how I felt about that since that's a specific match topic issue. it's about where we stand in the aftermath and our prospects in comparison to the rest of the league. My own summary of that is we stand at the top of the league and in comparison to others our prospects appear good.

Rossiter again did enough to confirm himself as a starter though I was worried he may get into trouble when right on the stroke of halftime he won a foul outside the opposition box and the ref decided not to add on any time to take it. That really pissed young Rossiter off and for a moment I feared he was going to get in that refs face.

So day two of the SPL season ends with Rangers sitting in a familiar position at the top of the league heading towards day three. The team have now proven they can win comfortably away from home at a side that has a reputation for being difficult to beat on their own patch and though the margin was just one goal that doesn't reflect the overall dominance of Rangers during a match in which a host of chances were created and more should have been scored. The attacking display missed chances aside was certainly acceptable but once again the same old defensive frailties at set pieces in particular raised it's ugly head. But despite that we have to be happy with what was a convincing and thoroughly deserved away win with hopes that the defensive deficiencies will be ironed out in the near future. Casting an eye around the league overall and taking into consideration that our team is still in a gelling process plus is likely to be strengthened both before this transfer window closes and during the next while the bulk of the opposition are likely to remain pretty much as they are right now I think we have to be content with the way things are beginning to shape up. With that in mind I don't think it's much of a stretch to expect that though #55 is obviously our objective a minimum second place finish in this league which would secure Euro participation looks well within our capabilities and despite not being the ideal would still be a slap in the face to the grunts out there rambling on about "in with the big boys now" and struggling to be top 6. In with the big boys was a vacuous grunt I saw from the usual suspects following the draw with Hamilton which is all the more ludicrous when you take into account that the lead "big boys" were themselves defeated at home by Hamilton in recent seasons. The reality is that the real big boys are back to recommence bullying the little boys. If we're anything like a top 6 struggler I wonder what that makes Dundee and Motherwell both of whom have been defeated by us on their own ground while being comfortably outplayed. I'm more than confident we can now beat Motherwell next week hopefully in a game where the strikers click at last to consolidate our top spot then take it from there. We're in a very good position at this early stage with a home game against a team we already defeated away up next and look well capable of building on our current placing.

Totally agree, I watched it and Motherwell were pathetic. Since we already beat them on their own patch if they come to Ibrox and play like they did at parkhead we will give them another beating. And maybe Motherwell are going to be the whipping boys everybody pegged Hamilton to be.

I didn't see it but since the minnows of Malta can go to Tynecastle and win i'm not impressed.

If we don't get a comfortable win against Motherwell next week it's going to be unfavourably compared to Motherwells most recent result in Glasgow.

Apparently though he is popular with the Preston support some think that he is out of his depth in the Championship. In season 2014/15 when they were in league 1 and ended the season being promoted to the Championship through the play offs he bagged 25 league goals and chipped in with 3 assists in 37 matches which is a good strike rate. But last season in the Championship his tally was only 6 goals and 5 assists in 41 league games so some of them think league 1 is his level.

When it comes to Ashley appeals aren't an if, it's as sure as night follows day there will be appeals. Ashley would appeal if he were accused of being fat. The suits would say it's a matter of perspective. He's skinny in comparison to Cyril Smith.

Even if a lack of TV interest in lower league teams were simply down to the absence of Rangers which is highly likely it still doesn't constitute an argument of unfairness when we're dealing with media organisations who are profit based. If pizza hut dropped an item because only a tiny number of people ever ate it is that bias? That's what this amounts to.

I suppose it can only be viewed as a positive thing regarding the growing strength of the squad when as far as i'm aware O'Halloran has accounted for comfortably the largest transfer fee paid by the club in the Warburton era and he is struggling to get into the team while he would probably walk into the first 11 in almost any other side in the SPL.

It does seem peculiar that the deal only allows 3 of 4 quarter final ties to be televised but apparently that's what the contract says so that's that. As for the choice of tie being ignored that's simply common sense on the part of the broadcasters who are not the BBC and have a financial stake in it.
