U-turn leaves Football League facing competition to tempt Old Firm clubs
JFK-1 replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
There is nothing in league 1 in England that could compete with the resources of Rangers. The Championship is a different matter because for one thing every year you have 3 clubs dropping down from the premiership with parachute payments but the majority also couldn't compete with Rangers given that all the others would be receiving the same TV deal but they don't have the crowds to match Rangers. I'm pretty confident that if the likes of Bournemouth with a stadium capacity of 11K can make it to the EPL which they have then a team with the additional resources and drawing power of Rangers can do it too. But if you think a better alternative is to stay on this sinking ship till it hits the bottom with the league of Ireland that's your choice. Personally I wish we had got out in 2012 and started at the bottom in England then and I would still prefer England to any continental league now. -
Yes I understand but the Killie match in particular still being so fresh in the memory greatly frustrated me. They were flying well high over the bar with such regularity it became what I expected when I saw somebody preparing to pull the trigger.

It was pretty much easy aside from one hiccup in 2014/15 -

Yes I think it's obvious it's a sinking ship with not enough lifeboats and those who can get in a boat are scrambling for it leaving the rest to go down like the titanic. Sky TV was the iceberg and it was first spotted around the time Gascoigne signed for Rangers. Around that same time the first big Sky deal was signed by the EPL and I remember reading an article in a paper that said "Paul Gascoigne will be the last big English international to come to Scotland" I didn't give it much notice at the time but it stuck in my head for some reason and has proven to be prophetic. -
And a heap of shots that soared high over the bar.

Arrests made over alleged sectarian singing at Kilmarnock v Rangers game

My brother in law is a Celtic supporting Catholic who went to Catholic schools himself but sent his own kids to the local non denominational schools all us proddies go to because he grasps better than most what it results in when you come up through that type of what is effectively apartheid. His kids are now Celtic supporters but not pro terrorist or bigoted. And that's exactly what happens more often than not when you don't participate in the apartheid. -

You would imagine Garner will be played since he has to be fitter than Waghorn plus is an unknown quantity for them and it would be peculiar to spend such an amount of money in the current financial climate then not play him. -

If Senderos is signed by the time the Linfield game comes along it would be interesting if they took the opportunity to see what a Senderos plus Crooks central defence may look like. O'Halloran has always tormented them during his time at St Johnstone. A quote from an article on O'Hallorans last visit there with St Johnstone just before joining us. -
No World Cup qualifying games have been played, Scotland CAN win the World Cup.

I think Cummings is somewhat of an unknown quantity we can't compare to Joe Garner. Cummings is playing in a dominant side with the largest or one of the largest budgets in the Scottish Championship while Garner was playing in one of the smallest teams in the English Championship which is the 7th richest league in Europe and that team was playing a park the bus strategy with him as the lone striker up front. Their highest scorer hit 8. I don't think the Scottish Championship is even equivalent to league 1 in England where Garner hit 25 in 37 league matches. Contrast that to the 18 league goals Cummings got in 33 league matches last season in arguably a weaker league.

Deliberate assault. Makes you wonder what passes for brains in an animal like that.

'I'm a Rangers man': James Tavernier tells Mark Warburton he's STAYING
JFK-1 replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
He was our standout at Kilmarnock and if he keeps that up somewhere along the line there is going to be an offer we can't refuse which wont even include horses heads in anybody's bed. I would be more than disappointed if he went anytime soon unless it were funny money in excess of 10 million since he is contracted for another 3 years and there should be no rush to to cash in while we're trying to build a team. -
Another little aside regarding comments by Preston fans about the Kilmarnock match. One said this referring to Rangers. I felt obliged to offer a response to that which was the following. We started the match with 3 over 30's who were Hill, Barton and Miller which would have been just 2 if not for Hill having to unexpectedly replace Wilson. Funny what equates to "mostly" in some peoples minds.

Divorce the shrew.

I think bedding in is a different proposition when playing against lower league opposition including mostly part timers as opposed to top league opposition and full timers. I still feel we will get there.
-
Yep, another to add to that list so we have more than half an outfield all missing right now so as I previously stated the team is still in the process of gelling and since there has never been a single chance to name what might be his first choice team and bench i'm remaining confident at this early stage that despite everything including some poor form we are still undefeated and sitting in a respectable second spot and in the last 8 of the league cup.
-
We have a fair list of players either injured or still not fit to play following injury. Waghorn, Windass, Crooks, Dodoo, Wilson straight off the top of my head. Almost half a team and so far we haven't once been able to field a side and bench that might be his first choice with everyone fit.
-
It's far from an ideal start but how many teams out there wouldn't be happy with undefeated and second in the league? And at this stage it's meaningless to bandy around that this is Rangers and more is expected from Rangers. This is a Rangers who are 2 minutes back in the top flight following a virtual armageddon. I want to be sitting top like everyone else but if we only maintain our position all through the season that's a reasonable return following armageddon and I still expect performances to improve as the weeks pass by. Last night in an away match at Kilmarnock we had 19 shots in a game all agree we were woeful in. We will improve and what's that going to look like when we play well.

Might be nothing and probably is but I have been seeing reports of all manner of connection problems with the internet in general and specific sites too in relation to the recent windows 10 anniversary update. Anyone having problems might keep that in mind if they recently installed the windows 10 anniversary update

Here's a better bet for Hartson. Not as good a price as his fantasy bet but a lot more realistic in terms of a return. Bookies make Celtic just 9/4 to LOSE every single Champions League game
-
I thought he was a gambler not an out of his face smackhead. Tell you what Hartson, since you like a punt go bet your house on that because the bookies will give you a great price on it. Barcelona and City both to qualify from group 1/3 Barcelona and Celtic both to qualify from group 16/1 Celtic and City both to qualify from group 40/1 Monchengladbach and Celtic both to qualify from group 250/1 They're going to lose EVERY away match and probably be beaten at home by both Barca and City and how this guy reads "I believe Celtic CAN qualify from this group" into that baffles me. No wonder he's reportedly broke because of gambling if he puts his money on his own waffling.

Have to agree almost certainly sky. I somewhat doubt they would be signing up for a Rangers TV stream for a match not even at Ibrox and they're trying to attract an audience from either side of the divide. It would make no sense to sign up to a stream that would be expected to have a bias towards one side or the other. You might argue that the sky commentary has bias commentators but it's presumed to be neutral while anything else is not.

An aside is that a on a Preston forum I looked at there were a number of them watching this match out of curiosity to see how Garner would fare. A general opinion from them was that the first half was dire and that Rangers were nothing like as dominant as they all expected. No argument from me there. And in the second half when some pressure began to be applied only Tavernier for them looked a stand out on the pitch with some complimentary remarks about the Kilmarnock goalie. And lack of surprise from them when in their view Garner dived looking for a penalty. A lot of English people start watching with a preconceived view that Scottish football is crap and even if it looked different to that preconceived notion there are many who still want to maintain that view but not all. One remark from a Preston fan starting off with a brief comment about the performance of Garner.

I was irritated by I think it was 2 or 3 balls put right across the face of the Kilmarnock goal on the ground just feet out and nobody was there to just prod it in. And how many shots did we see all of which soared high over the bar? Can't they keep that ball down to at a minimum force a save from the goalie or maybe get a deflection? Get something rather than the sight of a ball soaring high over the bar? I'm not a professional but when I played I could in general strike a ball without it launching into orbit. In saying that i'm still remaining confident that it will all click into place. We created enough chances to win it comfortably even while playing extremely poorly.
