  1. It's another odd twist in the Joey Barton saga. First why would a bookie care who bets on anything at all? Would a supermarket care if armies of alcoholics were buying a millions quids worth of booze from their store each year? I would guess not they just want to make money. I have seen stores where they didn't care if the purchaser was underage providing they could plausibly sell it to them. On the other hand a store owner will always make a profit from a sale but a bookie wont and it wouldn't be too surprising if someone as well off as Joey were betting tidy sums and winning with has vast knowledge of the game thus giving the bookie reason to cause a fuss about it which he probably wouldn't if Joey were losing heavily. I will hazard a guess that Joey wasn't walking into bookies here there and everywhere placing bets but rather betting online so the bookie would get his name from a credit card and at that you have to further think oh Joey if you absolutely must have a punt can't you get your burd or a mate or something to place the bet which would save all this hassle? I would have been infinitely more concerned if he were betting on matches he was playing in because that would be beyond the pale but the article is saying there is no suggestion he did.
  2. You get the feeling that Joey doesn't comprehend that speaking your mind isn't always an admirable character trait or socially wise. You can't go walking around saying to people excuse me but you're ugly and expect them to thank you for being honest. There are alternative ways to approach things.
  3. Overall I would rather lose this one than the next one but if we want to win this I don't think we can look at it as a guaranteed gimme where we can 'rest' players and just throw in whoever we feel like. They're a competent unbeaten side riding a wave of confidence.
  4. There is 2.3 yards of a difference in width between Ibrox and Pittodrie which if you call it a yard each side I suppose doesn't really amount to much and Pittodrie is comfortably larger than any pitch in the EPL. Ibrox Field size 114.8 × 74.3 yards Pittodrie Field size 109 yd × 72 yd The 5 largest in the EPL in 2015/16 Arsenal Emirates Stadium 105m x 68m Aston Villa Villa Park 105m x 68m Hull KC Stadium 105m x 68m Manchester City Etihad Stadium 105m x 68m Manchester United Old Trafford 105m x 68m There are another 5 with the same dimensions before they start to become smaller.
  5. I don't think it's a match where anyone should be 'rested' at such an early stage of the season. Yes they're Championship opposition but on current form they're the best team in that league sitting top of the pile and the only undefeated team in it while to reach this stage of the cup they walloped hibz 3-1 at Easter Road. I would like to see the strongest possible 11 starting it then gaining a comfortable lead before switching anyone out for any rest purposes. And incidentally these are brief highlights of their game at the weekend where they had another 3-1 win over Raith who themselves are a useful side.
  6. Yeah I think it may have been a shade better if he just left it at whoopee pundits. That was good enough and a fair assessment of the activities of Sutton.
  7. Three weeks is almost an exile. I would have preferred he at least be training but the fact they wont even let him mingle with the squad is foreboding.
  8. Did he say 'i'm never going to become embroiled in spats with whoopee pundits" ?
  9. OK so you're saying a guy who managed four of what would be regarded as the top clubs in the world has a great record because he won two champions leagues. I would disagree with that because I would think many others could win the champions league when in command of enormous budgets at the top clubs in the world. And then you think that comparing Mourinho to Warburton isn't fair because Mourinho has a more extensive record which I suppose has some degree of validity but Warburtons limited record is very good indeed. He got within touching distance of the EPL with the second smallest budget in one of Europes most competitive leagues. With Rangers he won the Championship at a romp and so far this season has had only 6 league matches and while there appear to be teething problems is within 1 point of second spot while the 'special one' who has such exceptional player management skills and tactical awareness that after spending a world record fee on a single player and tens of millions more on others is sitting 7th in the EPL and being beaten by the provincials of Europe. Why is that? Could it be because he too is trying to bed in new players? I believe both teams will do a lot better this season than they are right now. And regarding Aberdeen you're really clutching at straws pointing to a goal of a difference in two games as worthy of proclaiming they have a better Record than Rangers. Dundee for example, you may want to look at it as negatively as possible by claiming a single goal of a difference to be a sign they are better and that's all very well but I prefer to look at it from a different perspective. They had 58% of the possession at Dundee we had 61% while they had 3 shots on target all of which went in which is a rarity at almost any level of football while we had 6 shots on target at Dundee just 2 of which went in. Thus all we need is the odds to swing in another direction which all things being equal they invariably must. And as for each of our differing opinions only time will tell but I think we could agree on one thing. We would both hope that my optimism proves to be more accurate than your pessimism.
  10. They have an identical record to us this season. Two wins 3 draws 1 defeat which is exactly why they too are on 9 points.
  11. Yes. We don't have greater resources than most of the league? That's one of the criticisms being aimed at us that we do so in terms of Man U it's a perfect comparison because they get the same criticism. As for our manager that's a matter of opinion isn't it. I happen to think he's a good manager and also think Mourinho has been over rated but that's also just an opinion. Mourinho made his name at Porto where he built a good side but does that one good side mean he is a great manager? Ever since Porto he has basically been a cheque book manager at clubs with almost unlimited resources. Do you think Mark Warburton would win the league with a cheque book far bigger than anybody else?
  12. I haven't actually noticed that but maybe they think Joey's mouth is a disaster waiting to happen especially so after a match when he may come off still hyped. And maybe he has done such interviews and they didn't publish it.
  13. I would say all would find it acceptable and I would find it more than acceptable but it's more rare than typical in any league.
  14. But you're painting a 5th place as if it's miles off the pace when it's actually just 1 point off second place. And with one win depending on results elsewhere could go second in the league. That's how close it all is at this time with 32 games remaining and at this stage it's nothing to get in a panic about. Chelsea are in 5th place in the EPL and are 3 points off second place. Does that mean they're totally out of contention? I would argue not and would further consider that absolutely no one down there would disagree with that contention. Man U misfiring and 1 point off the top 4. Totally out of contention? Of course not this is just the opening stages for them as it is for us.
  15. Might have got it from the yahoos on that great Record font of knowledge the hotline. I get the feeling they want Barton out then they can go on a rant about how witless it was to bring him in at all despite the fact this is a guy who was widely rated as the best player in the English Championship last season. I hope he doesn't go but rather gets his head down and gets fit because someone like that didn't suddenly become a bad footballer over a matter of a few months. And I don't go for any of the stuff about the the SPL being too fast for him either. The English Championship is littered with top quality players and teams who play at a high tempo and his old Burnley team mates had no problems at all with the pace of it when they came to Ibrox pre season.
  16. It may be interesting in the sense that QoS are sitting top of the Championship and unbeaten this season including defeating hibz at Easter Road by 3 goals to 1 to reach this round of the cup. That instills in the exuberant ones a fantasy that if QoS can do that to them at home then they can easily do the same to us because they think they''re up there among the top 5 teams in the country. I don't agree with either of those views but that's the state of affairs in fantasy land.
  17. You might find it on this link provided by Der Berliner from a Russian source which has more comprehensive highlights. Scroll down the page some to see the video. http://rangersfc.org/index.php?dn=news&to=art&id=1951
  18. No that's actually you, look back and digest. I already left it alone and you could not stop trying to throw in a last word. YOU try it again. Since you don't appear to want to I'll provide the context you're conveniently ignoring for you and anyone else. Response. So there you have the context and if you don't get my purpose let me explain. It's an attempt to illustrate what a response in kind like looks like not an attempt to introduce such talk as if it were an acceptable type of discourse among fans of the same club. Now go ahead and prove it's me and not you just can't let anything go without getting a last word and when you do can I predict it will be almost completely devoid of any response to all I have said here just like your last attempt at a last word was?
  19. Had I said anything like that to you? The answer is no I hadn't.
  20. In comparison to Aberdeen who have a great recent record? I'm not just sure they wont I know they wont. Rangers are favourites to win the match and massive favourites to be second in the league so again that's pretty much a failure to back anything up. And an even greater issue as Pete mentioned isn't having a different opinion it's taking an aggressive/confrontational tone with those who disagree wit you. That type of thing puts some people off posting at all.
  21. I think in this game in particular where they turned in what was arguably the best display of the season so far booing was definitely not applicable. The match was almost a total siege of the County goal. County started with what appeared to be a willingness to play with their team more or less all up until the incident where Windass blazed past their defence as if it was barely there at all. That seemed to put the wind up them and from there it became largely the old familiar park the bus.
  22. Maybe it's generally expected that someone who is a multi millionaire and could dine out on his past for the rest of his life so shouldn't be as likely to fall prey to such an outcome. And of course there is another view that it's hard to replace the adrenaline of such a life when it comes to an end so it's easier to fall prey to such an outcome. Regarding George Best as an example I think he was always at least halfway to alcoholism and Gazza as another example probably not alcoholic all along but definitely a troubled character who was likely to fall into such a state once it was all over. In the case of Gazza I don't think he has the mentality to overcome his demons. It looks bleak.
  23. But the point is sacked for who? Don't they already have what many deem to be one of the best or even the best there is? They won their first 3 league matches then it's straight to sacking for who knows else after a couple of bad results? Football at the professional level is often a finely balanced game of variables which aren't always going to go in your favour. Barcelona who are arguably the best on the planet right now recently lost at home to a provincial side who had failed to win any games to that point. Is that halfway to a sacking? People have to grasp that a league season isn't a sprint it's a marathon and there are always going to be upsets along the way which may or may not come consecutively.
