Former Rangers star Fernando Ricksen banned from flying due to health issues
JFK-1 replied to pete's topic in Rangers Chat
Yes I too think he is now approaching the end. Apparently around half of all victims are dead inside 3 years of diagnosis and 80% inside 4 years. Awful way to go. -
Joleon Lescott out for up to six months with knee injury
JFK-1 replied to Frankie's topic in Rangers Chat
I never believed the story about him not signing for 'family reasons' because of the commute since he must have discussed it with his wife before going through a medical. Then he moved to Greece? That's quite a commute. Looks to me like the medical team nailed it and the club tried to do him a favour by not talking about what had been found during the medical. -

Pre Bosman when they could virtually hold players prisoner even after their contract had expired. -
If he had just sat on his arse watching telly and tweeting for the past 4 weeks I would have doubted his commitment. It would certainly suggest a determination to get back into the reckoning and might also suggest he will go to the manager cap in hand pledging to toe the line.

Wouldn't surprise me if he has also been winning overall from his bets. I doubt they would be so quick to snitch if he were regularly losing a tidy sum.

A relative decline was also linked to paying for the stadium redevelopment following the 1971 Ibrox disaster in which 66 died years ahead of the Taylor report which forced all other clubs to follow Rangers lead. But unlike with Rangers who took this path independently they got government assistance while Rangers had to finance it alone. The first phase of the redevelopment began in 1978. The Taylor report was published in 1990. -
I actually wondered if some bookies employee took exception simply because Joey bet on sellick to be crushed by Barca then collected a tidy sum when he was proven to be correct.

Any group is now a group of death for Scotland no matter who is in it. We're now one of those the others are hoping to be drawn with.

Have to agree with that and can give a small anecdote from my own experience to back it up. I previously mentioned I was at school with Jim Bett and while in our first year when we would all by chance be around 12 to 13 there was a first year inter class football tournament which my class and his reached the final of. During this final game fairly early on in the match I had the ball and was just thinking about going on a run because speed was my greatest weapon when my whole world figuratively went up in the air. Bett had come slide tackling into me from behind and I don't know if this was two footed or not but I went right up in the air and came crashing down landing on my back and can still remember hearing him saying "git oot ma road you" as I hit the deck. I think I was trying to form words like "ya f@cki* b@s%*#*" but discovered for the first and still only time in my life that I was winded and could barely just wheeze far less talk. I was a small un too at that time while Bett may have been a shade taller but nothing like as much taller as those pics show and little heavier because he was really skinny. The point is that people like him even in just a school class match took this deadly seriously and I would guess the under 20's in that Hearts team take it considerably more seriously than that because their entire future depends on what they do out there. I cringe to think what may happen to that boy if something similar came into to him at the hands of one of those 6 footers running around that pitch probably more than twice the weight Bett was when he clattered into me. Incidentally Bett scored the first goal of the game direct from a free kick to give them a 1-0 lead but our star man who was the guy I previously mentioned who was rated at least as good as if not better than Bett but who didn't make it it scored 2 goals to give us a 2-1 win by the end of it.

Looks as if he has the skills but there's more to it than that. I was at school with Jim Bett and there was another guy in our year who was at least as good and many thought even better yet while Bett made it to the top he didn't. A personal opinion looking back now would be that Bett had more courage and was more aggressive on the field than this other guy. Apparently Alex Ferguson always thought that Beckham had the skills at around 14 but still might not make it because they thought he wasn't aggressive enough. Seems they had to put some time into toughening him up and presumably it worked.

I think there's a difference between playing street football with older guys who are likely all neighbours and who will be going out of their way not to hurt a small one and professionals playing at an extremely high intensity of determination to succeed and definitely wouldn't take kindly to looking bad against a 13 year old half their size. Whereas the street players would give a lot of quarter to a small younger neighbour these guys most certainly wont.

Where I am it's bigger bills in the Summer and smaller bills in the Winter. Such is life and geography. -
Prince Harry got similar grief for the same thing and I would bet the 'Paki' he was referring to didn't even care about the remark. And keep in mind this is the army where drill Sergeants are notorious for speaking to trainees in less than complimentary terms. In the same article it also mentioned that Harry had said 'raghead' but someone else had to fill that in with the fact he was referring to the Taliban enemy when he said that. As if labelling the enemy with uncomplimentary names in war is unusual.

Perhaps a specific bet by Joey put certain noses out of place. Some might call that more of an investment than a bet.

You have to question the wisdom of Findlay taking this on considering his own connections with the club. I doubt he needs the money. Might be ego on his part since he's approaching the end of his career and he's well aware this is going to be about as high profile as a trial in Scotland could ever be and already being tipped to become the longest trial in Scottish legal history. In his view perhaps a suitable closing chapter to his career and a riveting closing chapter to his autobiography.

I too think all concerned should try to put this behind and get him back into contention and maybe especially so since we appear to have an injury prone squad and midfield in particular this year. If he hasn't worked out by January them so be it the best thing for all concerned would be for him to find another club.

I would agree more or less but still don't think it's passable as professional journalism to pronounce guilt due to 'social media' which though they will paint it in another fashion is exactly what they're doing. And if it is him hell mend him. We would hold all of the moral high ground if no one from our side had entered that pitch.

It's simply a by-product of the current state of Scottish society which has had sectarianism issues for well over a century which became intertwined with football along the way and now to complicate it further extreme nationalism issues have been added to the mix which have also crept into Scottish football in one way and another. Unfortunately that's not going to change anytime soon.

All I remember about it from back in the 60's was things like the Paki shop or i'm going to the Pakis to get this or that etc. I don't recall any use of f@ckin' Paki but if anyone wants to add that into anything at all does that make anything at all a racist slur? Ya f@ckin' English b@stard? So then by the same logic English is a racist slur? The PC culture has gotten out of hand and is used by many in an insidious manner in an attempt to silence legitimate criticism. Taken to it's extreme we may as well close down parliament because almost all they do in there is criticise each others ideology.

You know who adds these entries to wiki? Anybody who feels like it and it's whoever puts it there who defines it as they want it to be defined. It could be schoolkids as a project it could be a Pakistani who has issues with the term. If someone else had put the definition there it could say something else more in line with how I defined it. Would their definition be any more or less valid?. Is Scot which is merely an abbreviation of Scotland just as Paki is a shortening of Pakistan a racial slur? I remember growing up in the 60's when the term likely first began to have common usage and when I heard it I didn't interpret it as any more of a racial slur than I do Scot.
-
Yet they would probably deem a term like Paki offensive despite the fact it's simply an abbreviation of Pakistani?

It's not so much about age in this instance as physical development. Look at the size of him in comparison to the players around him. He looks to be barely chest height among them and they would only need to run into him to send him flying.

Granted the boy looks like he's got something but you have to wonder where their brains are because he's way too small to be thrown into under 20's at this stage. In this image we see him replacing a 16 year old for the final 9 minutes of a match against Hearts under 20's at Cappielow. Check the size difference between him and a 16 year old far less even older. This image shows him on the pitch in that game. The boy could be badly hurt. http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/celtic-starlet-karamoko-dembele-makes-8972730

Everyone who knows him and has played alongside him if they commented at all on his personality outside football agreed that Joey is an easy going guy who is good company. When it comes to football he's a totally different animal who even in training takes it deadly seriously which is probably proven by the number of training ground bust ups he has been involved in. I still think he can be a very valuable addition to our squad over the course of this season if the manager can get him to focus that passion on the pitch in combat so to speak rather than in training. I truly doubt he would have been so foolish as to claim that broonaldo isn't in his class if he didn't know for an absolute fact it was true. Providing the rest of the team have no problems with him which apparently they don't we need to get him fit and back into contention because there is no way we will be acquiring a player any better than he is in the near future. Get him fit and give him the chance to prove himself which if anything he must be even more desperate to do than before this fiasco. As it stands the chances are he would need to be eased back into it with a few appearances on the now standard 60 minute mark which should be good enough to give him a chance in a time period where he could go all out at it with no fear of running out of steam.
